Yorkshire Championships & Training Changes

Hi All,

We are looking forward to seeing some fast racing this weekend.  The turns are looking great at the moment, make sure you transfer them into your race.  Remember use the walls to pick up speed not loose speed, every millisecond counts.  I know some of you have got close to your pb's in training over the last few weeks which suggests you are ready to smash the Yorkshires.

April Meets

Hi All,

With the Yorkshire Championships in February and March, the focus going forward for Regional swimmers will be attaining as many NER and Welsh National qualifying times as possible.

There are 3 meets in April which we have identified for Regional Squads to
compete in:

12th & 13th April - Sports Aid (Tom & Kevin)
19th & 20th April - Leeds National Qualifier (Tom)
26th & 27th April - Harrogate Spa Town A/B Graded Meet (Kevin)

Swimmers should be entered into a maximum of 2 of the 3 above competitions in April. It is recommended that anyone that meets the qualifying times for the National Qualifier Meet include it as one of their selected competitions, as it features heat and finals and will be a good experience for NER Champs and Welsh Nationals.

For some swimmers (10 year old boys) the National Qualifier will be the only opportunity in April to swim the 100m events.

Any 9 year olds within Regional Squads will only be able to compete in the Harrogate Spa Town Meet so should enter this meet only.

12th & 13th April - Sports Aid
Events: 50s, 100s & 200s all strokes, 400 FC, 200 & 400 IM (Note: no 100s for 10yrs Boys)

Event information and qualifying times can be found on the Sports Aid website:
Sports Aid Website

19th & 20th April - Leeds National Qualifier
Events: 100s & 200s all strokes, 400, 800 & 1500 FC, 200 & 400 IM (All events 10yrs to Open Age Group)

Event information and qualifying times can be found on the City of Leeds
website.

City of Leeds Website

26th & 27th April - Harrogate Spa Town A/B Graded Meet
Events: 9 - 15 & over - 50 & 200 all stroke plus 400 FC, 200 & 400 IM
Girls 11-15 & over and Boys 12-15 & over - 100 all strokes

Upper & lower entry times are in force at this meet, so swimmers should have achieve a time between the two. These are available on the Harrogate SC website.
Harrogate Website

General competition entry advise
When entering events please ensure times that are entered are official times swum in competition and on the British Swimming Rankings. Please do not make up times to meet the qualifying standards for competitions, if a swimmer's times for an event are outdated or a swimmer has never swum an event before please speak to the coaching staff as we will use the standard times formula to work out an entry time.

Personal Best Records are held by British Swimming and are updated after each ASA registered meet. These can be found by entering swimmer surname or ASA number in the following webpage:
http://www.swimmingresults.org/individualbest/

Long course and short course times should also be kept separate where possible. So, long course PB's entered for long course competitions and visa versa. Conversions can be used to meet qualifying times however we discourage the use of converted times as they do not accurately reflect each childs ability to change from LC-SC or SC-LC.

There are a number of websites which convert swimming times for you, one in particular we use is
http://www.swimcalc.com/cgi-bin/convert.cgi/default

If you require any further information about the competitions in April please do not hesitate to speak to the coaching staff before or after training sessions.

Thanks

Kevin, Tom, Josh, Scott & Tom B

Attendance

Hi All,

May I please remind you all of the expected attendance for swimmers in the Regional Squads;

9 yrs = 5/6 sessions,

10 yrs = 6 sessions

11/ 12 years = 6/7 sessions

This follows the Long Term Athlete development plan for swimming and will give you the greatest chance of successes in the future if followed.

It has come to our attention that there are a lot of swimmers not attending the required amount of sessions to keep their place in the squad.  When the register is taken the amount of sessions attended by each swimmer is recorded in a spreadsheet and this information is looked at when we review swimmers places in the group.  Please make staff aware if your child is ill as this will go down on the register.

If a swimmer can not attend a session for whatever reason, this should be made up where possible in the same week or in the following week by attending a different session.

Kevin, Tom, Josh, Scott & Tom B

Land Training Behavior

Hi All,

Just a reminder that misbehaviour during land training will not be tolerated.  Land training is part of the Monday nights session and is their to aid all your performances and develop you all further as athletes.  Most of the exercises you are asked to perform require a high amount of concentration and skill.  If the gym staff feel like you are not giving your best effort and you are misbehaving you will be asked to leave the gym and you will not be welcome into the pool session afterwards.

This rule was applied back in 2010 with the old C Central.  Up until now with Regional squad we haven't had to use it, but there are a few members of the squad letting the rest of the team down.  This rule will be back in force from Monday.  Please work hard in the gym and get the most out of it.  Do not let the Regional Squad down.

Kevin, Tom, Josh, Scott & Tom B
