Attendance & Morning Training

Just a warning to everyone that after the Yorkshire's there is likely to be a lot of squad moves.  The training scheme is becoming stronger and stronger as there are more and more great swimmers coming through the squads.  Therefore places in the squads have to be prioritised and given to those swimmers who achieve the squad standards.

Just a reminder that for C Central the squads expected attendance for each age is 5 sessions a week for 9 year olds, 6 for 10 yrs and 6/ 7 for 11 years up.  Nearly all of you do meet the standards to keep your place in the squad, however swimmers that do not meet the minimum requirements are leaving their place in the squad open for somebody else who can come into the group and meet the standards.

A message that I have been asked to pass on from the top

The City of Leeds Training Scheme is an elite programme providing a pathway to the top.  Not everybody will make it, but in order for everyone to fulfill their potential each group is given a certain amount of training hours a week which swimmers must attend which follows the Long Term Athlete development plan for competitive swimming.

If you leave morning training early you will not be attending the correct number of hours, missing vital metres and missing out on key parts of the weekly plan.  As coaches we do appreciate everybody has to work to earn a living and some of you do need to leave early in order to arrive at work on time.

At the moment our squad finishes at 6.30am, if swimmers get selected to move up they will be expected to swim until 6.45am and then 7.00 am.  I have been asked to pass on the message that anyone who is seen to be leaving morning training before the workout is finished and cannot make arrangements to stay in until the end of the session, they will not be taken into consideration for move ups into the National Age Group Squad.

Great Start to 2012 at the City of Leeds B Grade

A good weekend of racing in our home pool at the weekend.  It was good to see the first racing of 2012.  I am looking forward to seeing some quality swimming at the Yorkshires in February.  Over all the group achieved 34 Pb's out of 44 Swims, 15 more Yorkshire Qualifying Times, 2 Speeding Tickets, 8 Gold Medals, 8 Silver Medals and 7 Bronze Medals.  Brilliant!

Goodbye! - My Final Post!

Goodbye Everyone!

Now you all know that I am leaving, I thought I would say goodbye!
Believe it or not, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time Coaching some of the most talented swimmers in the country, watching you all develop to the standard that you are today, on a national level.
Sorry for having to play the bad cop, but sometimes its necessary keeping you lot under control!
The reason I am leaving is nothing to do with the squad, a series of events made me change my mind about my career towards the end of last year and  I have now started a new job and the timetables just clash far too much for me to be justified as a coach on the squad.
I will still be around, so please say hello! For the foreseeable future I will be still Coaching Development East.
Also I would like to point out how fantastic the squad is under Kevin's leadership. The squad would not be where it is today without him, he taught me everything I know! (Maybe that’s where I have gone wrong? haha).
To the parents, every single one of your children are an absolute credit to you, I have worked with hundreds of children, both at Swimming and elsewhere over the last year, and they are far the most polite, fun bunch of children I have met, and you lot aren’t bad yourself!
Please remember, keep working hard, keep achieving what you have already achieved, go onto bigger and better things, I will be keeping a close eye on you all!

All the best for the future,

Ryan

1500m Timetrial

Don't worry too much about the times it was more of a mental test to achieve 1500m without stopping, even though some of you did achieve your Yorkshire qualifying times.  In C Central swimmers normally cover between 1500 - 4500 metres per session, but to swim 1500 metres without breaks is a test of fitness, mental concentration, gets swimmers to focus on keeping going when their bodies are finding the event tough and helps swimmers overcome the fear of swimming longer distances in races.  Well done to everyone who finished the 1500m.  There are also some 1500m times below from previous time trials and for some of you there is a huge improvement showing that you are all fitter, and stronger.  Some of you did put time on, however remember this time trial was done at the beginning of the season where the previous one was at the end. We will attempt the 1500m again in the year.  The girls times in brackets are 800m split times.  Thank you to all the volunteers for helping to time and keep count, it was a great help.

Welcome Back

Hi All,

Welcome back to training.  Hope you all had a fantastic Xmas and New Year.

We have now started the block of training which will take us through to our next big meet which is the Yorkshires in February.  Entries for this will be taken in the Denison Suite on Monday 16th January.  All Qualifiers should enter.  I know there are some rumors flying around at the moment regarding moves, so I just thought I would mention that move ups will not be taking place now until after the Yorkshires.  Work hard and make the Yorkshires competition your chance to shine and show everyone what you can do.

I am sad to inform you all that we will be losing Ryan at the end of next week.  Due to new work commitments it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to continue with C Central. Ryan has done a great job whilst working on C Central, we have had some great results whilst he has assisted on the squad.  I would like to thank him for all his effort and hard work and not forgetting the invetion of the blog.  He will be missed.  His last session will be Sunday 22nd Jan 2012.  I have set the wheels in motion to have someone take his place as quickly as possible.  Ryan will not be leaving coaching all together, he will continue to coach Development Squad East.
