City of Leeds Christmas Meet

Hi All,

The format for the Christmas Meet differs from previous competitions. The Youth and Seniors compete in the earliest session, Age Groupers will compete in the late morning/early afternoon session. The warm-up for this session is 11:30 am, therefore please aim to arrive for 11:00 am.

Please remember that there is no training on Sunday 16th due to the Gala.  Any swimmers competing will just be in the water for an hour on Friday night so you can all get to bed early ready to race hard on Saturday.

Swimmers are to see Kevin on Saturday and Tom on Sunday.

Details of the meet can be found by clicking the links below

"When I go out and race, I'm not trying to beat opponents, I'm trying to beat what I have done ... to beat myself, basically. People find that hard to believe because we've had such a bias to always strive to win things. If you win something and you haven't put everything into it, you haven't actually achieved anything at all. When you've had to work hard for something and you've got the best you can out of yourself on that given day, that's where you get satisfaction from."

"I concentrate on preparing to swim my race and let the other swimmers think about me, not me about them."

Junior Inter-League Grand Final Champions

The team returned from Corby triumphant in retaining the Grand Final Championship for a 4th year running.  This equals the current record of 4 straight wins!

Well done to all the swimmers who took part in the Junior Swim League.  After 3 rounds of swimming Leeds came out the strongest in all 3 rounds.  It certainly was an exciting afternoon with lots of fast racing and fun.  It was great to see you all supporting each other and working together as a team.  An overall outstanding performance topped off by Ben Rayner and Tia Ward setting records in the 50m Butterfly (11yrs) and 50m Backstroke (10yrs) respectively, as well as Top Boy and Top Girl in ther Age Groups.  The 12 yrs Girls Team also set a new Event record in the 4 x 50m Freestyle Team.  Not to be outdone the 12yrs Boys Team who set a new record in the 4 x 50m Medley Relay.

A big thank you to all the supporters amongst others who provided all the hats and flags etc.  Parents, thank you for all the effort that went in to supporting the team, you were all excellent, you looked good and it really helped motivate the swimmers.

The final results were

1st:  City of Leeds - 301
2nd:  Hilingdon - 255
3rd:  Stockport Metro - 253
4th:  Northampton - 226
5th:  Southport Aqua - 219
6th:  Boldmere SC- 177
7th:  City of Peterborough - 174

The City of Leeds Christmas Grand Prix is coming Your Club needs you!

Hi All,

We would like this event to raise a substantial amount of money to support the swimmers from City of Leeds and are hoping that you might be willing to supply us with a suitable prize for our Tombolla or Raffle.  We are also looking for any Christmas decorations you no longer need or any second hand books (adult and children) again..

City of Leeds Swimming Club ethos is "A team above all, but above all a team".  If every member of the team donates a prize, we together can make the fundraising at this gala a huge success.

Any parents interested in helping with fundraising or being on the supporters committee please speak to Lucie, Helen or Sharron on the Lucky Dip stall on Monday nights. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Get out fast on the first length, hold the second length, work the 3rd length, switch the legs on as fast as you can on the last length.  Try and aim to put a little bit more effort in on each length and don't slow down into the turns.  Remember it is natural to be nervous, If you do get nervous just think what everybody else on the on the blocks must be feeling. Go in pool and enjoy your race.

It's how you prepare months before in the training pool that will determine your performance at the main event.  Your ruthless attendance, quality and consistency of your training will serge you forward's to a result you will be happy with!

This is the BIG ONE!!!

Junior League National Final (Sunday 24th November)

The gala will take place at:

Corby International Pool,
Parkland Gateway,
Corby,
Northants,
NN17 1QB

All swimmers will need to arrive at John Charles overflow car park no later than 8:30 am ready for the coach to depart at 9:00 am sharp. Warm-up starts at 12:30 pm with the parade of teams at approximately 13:30 pm. We hope to be back at JCC for 20:00 pm.  All swimmers will be required to travel to and from the meet on the team coach.

If your child has a team track suit they should travel to and from the event in it.  Each swimmer will be provided with a t-shirt to mark the event, which must be worn to the event and for all team photographs. Please also ensure your child has another Leeds t-shirt to wear on the way home.  Tickets have been allocated for this meet and can be collected from Emma Ferriman on Sunday morning.

Obviously this will be a long day, so the children will need enough food and drinks to last the day. They should not be given all of their food for the day straight away, as they tend to eat too much on the journey down to Corby. Swimmers will not be allowed to leave our teams marshalling area to collect drinks from parents etc during the meet. Therefore please ensure they are adequately supplied with nutritious snacks and enough hydration on arrival at the pool.  Can we also ask that the children are sent with a £1 coin for a locker as last year they were not allowed to bring bags onto pool side.

Swimmers please remember everything you have practiced.  This will be a tough competition, every millisecond counts in an event like this so remember shallow dives, kick hard, get up and race hard and don't slow down into finishes.  BE CAREFUL ON THE TAKEOVERS!!!! It is better to go late than early.  We need to grab every point we can, getting disqualified can cause the team to loose between 1 and 8 points (double for the cannon relay), this we don't want.

Parents the louder you shout the faster the swimmers will go, nobody should have a voice left by the end of the competition.  We look forward to seeing you all dressed up in your hats, wigs, face paints etc.  Make as much noise as you can!  Drums, horns, flags, floating sharks, chants we want to see you go all out!

Hope you all have a fun and exciting day.

Lets bring home the Gold for the fourth time.

Good Luck Everyone! Smile
