City of Leeds September Sprints & City of Leeds October Meet

Hi all,

Hope you are looking forward to the City of Leeds Sprints Meet on Saturday 11th September.

Unfortunately, Leeds City Council are still operating under limited capacity in the pool hall at John Charles Aquatics Centre. This is only sufficient to accommodate athletes, coaches, officials, and team staff only. You are reminded that spectators will not be allowed at his event.

This is also likely to still be in place at the City of Leeds October Meet.

City of Leeds October Meet Entries

Hi All,

Entries for the City of Leeds October Meet held at John Charles on 2nd & 3rd October are now open for entry using your City of Leeds online accounts. Entries for this competition will close to Leeds swimmers on Monday 30th August. If you wish to discuss entries, please see coaches after the sessions this week.

Swimmers are advised to enter 2 – 3 races per session. Swimmers should enter races they have not already achieved Short Course Yorkshire Qualifying times in. This meet is also a great opportunity to try any races you have not competed in before to get a time posted on the British Rankings. Those swimmers that attend Thursday am can have a go at the 400m races.

Regional Performance - Lead Coach

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have received Craig Robertson's resignation from his position as Lead Coach to the Regional Performance Squad. Craig has been a tremendous asset and has added some real value to the Regional Squad programme over the past 5 years. He will continue to be involved with the National Squad and will continue his work with Swim England, but wishes to reduce his coaching hours to focus on completing his PhD.

Emily Jones, the current Assistant Coach, will take up the position of Lead Coach on a permanent basis with immediate effect. The recruitment process for the new Assistant Coach is already in progress and we are hoping to have this position filled within the next 6-8 weeks (pre-employment checks pending).

Emily has a vast amount of experience, having been a former competitive swimmer and member of the National Squad. She has competed to a National Championship level and has worked at every level of the coaching pathway in Leeds. We hope you'll join us in supporting Emily in her new role.

Regional Squads - Morning Training

Hi All,

Just to let you all know we plan on commencing morning training for the Regional Squads on the following dates.

4^th September - first Saturday morning

6^th September – first Monday morning

9^th September – first Thursday morning

Just a reminder that all swimmers aged 9 years + have agreed to attend one early morning (Monday or Thursday) upon taking their place in Regional Squad as outlined in the squad criteria.

STS Important Upcoming Dates

Good afternoon all,

We hope you've enjoyed your summer break and you're looking forward to getting back to training.

This email is just a reminder that we do recommence training this upcoming Monday evening (23^rd August) and that there will be no training for all squads Friday 27^th August to Monday 30^th August due to the bank holiday weekend. Training will resume as normal after the bank holiday weekend on Tuesday evening (31^st August).

Festival of Swimming Results 2021

Well done to everyone who took part in the Festival of Swimming in Ponds Forge, Sheffield at the end of July.

The leader boards from the recent Festival of Swimming have now been published – with over 6,700 swimmers having competed at the recent Festival of Swimming meets; we have truly kickstarted the return to racing for our prospective Olympians and Paralympians of the future.

City of Leeds achieved 5 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals, 4 Bronze Medals, 25 4th-10th place finishes.

Volunteers Needed

Hi All,

The City of Leeds home galas rely very heavily upon volunteers to make the gala's run. As we are approaching the new season and are hoping to run a full schedule of Leeds competitions any help from parents would be greatly appreciated.

There is currently a Swimming Technical Officials course coming up for anyone who is interested. This is an online course and is the first step to achieving Judge 1 status for swimming technical officiating. It is accessible to anyone who wants to understand the FINA rules relating to swimming and the process of being a Judge Swimming Official and Timekeeper.. The cost of the course is £20.00 and is available to anyone aged 15 years+ at the start of the course.

A great weekend of racing in Sheffield. Swimmers raced long course for the first time since February 2020.
