North Eastern Counties - 2nd Weekend
Preparation for your race is almost more important than how you swim the race itself. If you do not prepare your body and mind in the correct way before you get on the blocks, it is not going to be able to perform to the level that you want it to. For you guys, this prep starts even potentially hours before your race. Making sure we are warmed up properly, also making sure we are feeding ourselves with the right fuel, especially with the long, hot days we really need a big effort to try and keep ourselves energised and ready to race.
Just a reminder of the arrival times at John Charles this weekend.
Am Sessions (Heats)
Friday 10th May - 18:30 - 19:30 (NER Swimmers), Normal for rest of squad
Saturday 11th May - 06:15 - 7:45 (Long Course) (None NER Swimmers Only), (Earlier time due to NER's)
Monday 13th May - No Am Training (Swimmers who have competed in NER's)
Normal (Swimmers who have not competed at NER's)
Equipment Check
Can you please take some time to look at kit bags over the next week and give equipment a good clean! We have several individuals who keep reminding us that snorkels have gone mouldy, or they have broken! Please also take this opportunity to check for any missing equipment and replace it as soon as possible so that swimmers can take part in all parts of the session with the correct apparatus.
Here's a quick reminder of what is needed:
· Fins
· Paddles (small/finger paddles)
· Snorkel
· Pullbuoy
· Kickboard
· Drinks Bottles
· Spare Cap & Goggles
If you require a replacement STS Cap, you can purchase one from the Aquatics Centre Reception (you will need to keep the receipt and pass it to your coach, so that they can give you the cap). Please keep an eye on your child's kit bags on a regular basis to ensure nothing has gone missing!
Just a reminder that black STS caps should be worn for training and yellow City of Leeds caps for competitions (this includes warm up's and cooldown).
Any City of Leeds kit can be purchased through our online shop here.
Many thanks,
The Regional Team
Reminder - LCC STS Etiquette for Parents/Guardians
Dear Parent/Guardian,
To ensure that the Swimming Training Scheme and its coaches can operate to maximum effectiveness, we would like to request that the following etiquette is adhered to when visiting STS training venues across the city:
Access to poolside/balcony areas
· Parents/guardians should not access poolside, unless requested to do so by the squad coach or leisure centre staff.
· Access to the balcony should be via the entrance foyer and not through the changing rooms/walking along poolside.
· Under no circumstances should parents/guardians enter the poolside gym.
Meet Entries
· Please ensure that if you need any advice on competition entries this is done with your squad coach prior to submission. Please do not leave this until the entry closing date.
· As you know, our coaches are extremely busy and cannot guarantee that they will be available to discuss entries on the day that they are due.
Communicating with your Coach
· Parents/guardians should not interrupt coaches during sessions or attempt to interact with their child(ren) during sessions. This will allow the children to have full focus on the training session.
· If you would like to speak to your coach, please arrange to do so at the end of the session, so that the group can start on time. If there is an urgent issue that the coach needs to be made aware of, please try to speak to the coach as early as possible, so that the session can start on time.
· If you feel that your coach needs information about your child prior to the session, please contact the Swim Office so that this information can be relayed to the appropriate coach.
Absences/Illness/Injuries
· It is an expectation of the STS that swimmers who arrive for sessions are fit and able to meet the demand of the training session prescribed in every respect.
· Should a swimmer fall ill or become injured to such a degree that their performance or the performance of other swimmers in the squad may be compromised, the requirement of the STS is that they remain away from training until they are fit and well. Apart from the negative impact continuing to attend training when poorly can have on their own wellbeing, it may be the case that the illness is passed to others in the squad.
· If you are going to be absent from training, you must inform your squad coach at the earliest possible convenience.
Lateness
· Whilst sometimes it cannot be helped to be late due to traffic, please make every effort to arrive to training early. It has become noticeable that there are certain swimmers who arrive late to every session. Over a week some swimmers lateness is adding up to one full session missed a week.
· Swimmers should aim to arrive on poolside 10-15 minutes early to take part in their pre pool routine, be ready to listen to the warm up and dive in on time.
Many thanks in advance for your cooperation.
