North Eastern Counties

Here is the first weekend of the big one.  Lets SMASH IT!!

Remember use the walls to pick up speed not lose speed, every millisecond counts.  Pick up the effort every 50m and hold your technique when feeling tired.

Just a reminder of the arrival times at Ponds Forge this weekend.

Am Sessions
Arrive: 07:30
Warm Up: 08:00
Start: 09:00

Finals
Saturday Start: 15:30
Sunday Start: 15:00

A draft programme can be viewed by clicking the link below;

Training will be only 1 hour on Friday night.  Make sure you all prepare well and stay hydrated over the weekend, it will be very hot on poolside.  Remember your snacks for poolside off the nutrition list.

"Before the (Olympic) trials I was doing a lot of relaxing exercises and visualisation.  And I think that that helped me to get a feel of what It was gonna be like when I got there.  I knew that I had done everything that I could to get ready for that meet, both physically and mentally".  (Michael phelps, 6 Gold Medals, 2004 Olympic Games)

Like Michael Phelps, you should plan in your head what you are going to do in your race.  Visualise your streamlining, kicks off the wall, not breathing last 5m etc and it will happen.  Thinking about it after the race is too late.

Please remember there is no training on Sunday for any swimmers competing at the North Eastern Counties.  Any remainding swimmers from Regional 1 & 2 will train at Armley 16:00 - 17:30 with Josh & Mark

Best of luck to you all Winking smile

Welsh Summer Nationals

Hi,

Firstly, please allow me to apologise for the delay in informing you of Welsh Nationals, our team have been working hard to try and make sure every child has not only the opportunity to be at, but more importantly will receive the best care whilst at Welsh Summer Nationals.

After much discussion I am very glad to announce, the Team Managers have decided that all those who expressed their interest within the notification date, will be offered the opportunity to compete at Welsh Summer Nationals.

At this point we would appreciate it if you could inform us if your circumstances have changed and you are unable to attend. Please could you inform me of this no later than Monday 10th June.

The team will aim to begin taking money by Monday 17th June. Following Tuesday 11th June, results from North East Regionals should be on rankings so that you will be able to begin entering your child for events through the online entry system.

Kind regards,

Craig

Another weekend of excellent racing. Keep up the hard work and the training will pay off.

With the North Eastern's coming up (our major competition) make sure every turn, every start, every finish is practiced like you would do in a race to give yourself a chance of knocking those seconds off and moving up the results sheet to the top.  Try and attend all sessions between now and the North Eastern's to give yourself the best chance of doing well.

Being your best...
"Being your best is not so much about overcoming the barriers other people place in front of you as it is about overcoming the barriers we place in front of ourselves.  It has nothing to do with how many times you win or lose.  It has no relation to where you finish in a race or whether you break world records.  But it does have everything to do with having the vision to dream, the courage to recover from adversity and the determination never to be shifted from your goals".  (Kieren Perkins, 1500m Freestyle Olympic Champion 1992, 1996)

Unfortunately i cannot be there over the weekend as I am away at the Yorkshire masters in Scarborough.  Swimmers are to see Josh on Saturday and Tom on Sunday.

Good Luck to everyone who is racing this weekend.  Remember get in the race from the start, don't play catch up later on, less than a second on the turns and accelerate into the finish.  On 100m races go out like it is a 50m race and hold on when coming back on the second 50m.  If you have done all the sessions your fitness will be high and you should be able to do this no problem.

Remember to pick up the effort on every 50m.  If the length feels the same as the one you have swum before you will be slowing down, if you feel like you are putting in more effort on the length then your time will be the same as the length before which is what you want.
Stand on the block, look down the lane and Go for GOLD!, Show everyone what Regional is made of.

Harrogate A Grade Meet

Hi All,

Just to let you know entries for the Harrogate A Grade Meet on 22nd and 23rd June will be taken on Monday 13th May.

Entry forms can be printed using the link below:

There are quite a few of you who have a lot of times to update so please spread your races out between this meet and the Leeds B Grade the week after so you do not have too many swims in one weekend.

Training will be cancelled on both Sundays as all Squad members should be competing.

I would like all squad members to swim the 50m races at Harrogate as we have started to look at selection for the Junior League team in September.  Team selection will be based on the fastest swimmers over 50m.  You will be fighting for a place on the team.

We will be available to sign forms after training on Friday night and Monday morning.

Kevin, Tom, Elysha, Josh & Mark.
