Junior League Grand Final 2015

Team Leeds was in action at the Corby International Pool for the 7th year in a row yesterday. The Coaches and Club are really pleased with the effort and performances of the day, improving on last year's sixth by 3 places.

1st - City of Guildford = 320

2nd - Stockport Metro = 291

3rd - City of Leeds = 254

4th - Southport = 198

5th - Plymouth Leander = 183

6th - Gateshead = 175

7th - City of Norwich = 173

8th - Northampton = 167

The coaching team definitively observed improvement in racing skills from all of the team. Tia Ward received Top Girl in the 12 years age group for her performances in the individual events where she put some World Class dolphin kick skills to devastatingly good use.

Support from the 'Frenzy' was excellent all day, but we would like to offer utmost gratitude to our representative officials, David Broome, Andrew Russell and Gerald Cowan; and our sincerest appreciation to Emma Ferriman for organising logistics, and finally our thanks and congratulations to Jo Yeomans for her very first outing as a Junior League Team Manager.

"A Team Above All. And Above All A TEAM."

Junior League National Final (Sunday 29th November)

The gala will take place at:

Corby International Pool,
Parkland Gateway,
Corby,
Northampton,
NN17 1QB

All swimmers will need to arrive at John Charles no later than 7:30 am ready for the coach to depart at 7:45 am sharp. Unfortunately a new approach by the league means that they will be doing Team Photographs prior to the event, since we assume we are still not allowed in to the building until a certain time we strongly advise that children bring a warm/waterproof jacket with them.  Warm-up starts at 12:30 pm with the parade of teams at approximately 13:30 pm. We hope to be back at JCC for 7:30 pm.  All swimmers will be required to travel to and from the meet on the team coach.

If your child has a team track suit they should travel to and from the event in it.  Each swimmer must wear their Junior League Final 2015 T Shirt for travel to the event, whilst the event is taking place and for all team photographs.  Please also ensure your child has another Leeds t-shirt to wear on the way home.

Obviously this will be a long day, so the children will need enough food and drinks to last the day. They should not be given all of their food for the day straight away, as they tend to eat too much on the journey down to Corby. Swimmers will not be allowed to leave our teams marshalling area to collect drinks from parents etc during the meet. Therefore please ensure they are adequately supplied with nutritious snacks and enough hydration on arrival at the pool.  Can we also ask that the children are sent with a £1 coin for a locker as last year they were not allowed to bring bags onto pool side.

Swimmers please remember everything you have practiced.  This will be a tough competition, every millisecond counts in an event like this so remember shallow dives, kick hard, get up and race hard and don't slow down into finishes.  BE CAREFUL ON THE TAKEOVERS!!!! It is better to go late than early.  We need to grab every point we can, getting disqualified can cause the team to loose between 1 and 8 points (double for the cannon relay), this we don't want.

Parents the louder you shout the faster the swimmers will go, nobody should have a voice left by the end of the competition.  We look forward to seeing you all dressed up in your hats, wigs, face paints etc.  Make as much noise as you can!  Drums, horns, flags, floating sharks, chants we want to see you go all out!  We do not just want the best swimmers on the day, we want the best supporters on the balcony too.  We are all part of the same team, please make sure you get behind every swimmer.

Hope you all have a fun and exciting day.

Good Luck Everyone! Smile

Easy Fundraising

The City of Leeds Swimming Club are always looking for new ways to raise funds to support our swimmers.  The Club is registered with Easy Fundraising.

Easyfundraising.org.uk helps charities, schools, sports clubs, community groups, and other good causes to raise money when their supporters shop on line. So far they have raised over £3 million for causes throughout the UK.

It works in a similar way to many other loyalty shopping sites, but instead of earning points when you shop, you raise a donation for City of Leeds Swimming Club instead. It's as simple as that!

I am sure with Christmas fast approaching most of us will be doing our shopping on line, so please register with easyfundraising, it really is a very simple way to boost funds for the club.

For information how to register click on the following link which is a letter from the supporters committee explaining how.

Regional Xmas Party Reminder

Hi All,

Please remember that tomorrow night Friday 20th November is the last night to get your money to Jo Yeomans if you would like to come to the Christmas Party.  If you are travelling to Sunderland on Friday night and have not paid but still want to come please leave your money plus your choice of food with Kevin or Craig tonight and they will pass it on to Jo.

Regional's Christmas party is booked for Tuesday 15th December.  Due to all the competitions in December we are struggling to find time to fit in our Xmas party.  We have decided the best time would be on a Tuesday evening which will be 19:00 until 20:30 at MFA Bowl (at the back of the Merrion centre).  The cost is £6:50 per child.  This includes one game of bowling plus food and a drink.

The food options are:

Entries for this meet will be taken on Monday 17th November.

Swimmers should use this meet to concentrate on chasing Yorkshire and North Eastern qualifying times and to have a go at events they have not swum before.  Also use this as a chance to update 50m times for Yorkshire team selection.

City of Leeds Xmas Meet Entries

Hi All,

Please remember entries for the City of Leeds Xmas Meet will be taken on Monday 16th November.

This will be the second meet in December that the Regional Squads will be attending.  Therefore plan your events wisely.  Do not repeat the same events you are racing at Bradford the weekend before.

If you have already qualified  for the Yorkshire's or NER's in an event focus on obtaining times in other events.  I would strongly advise entering the 200m Individual Medley and also update your 50m Freestyle and your best 50m time for selection in the Yorkshire teams in February.

Competitive Start Award - City of Bradford Meet

Hi All,

With regards to the City of Bradford Meet in December, you may/may not be aware that Shipley Pool is a double shallow end pool, meaning kids will be required to start from blocks in to 1.2m depth pool!

Children are only allowed to do this on completion of the ASA Competitive Start Award which some of you may remember we use to run as bit of a holiday session for them to complete the necessary requirements to show they had the capabilities. However, we haven't run a course for a couple of years now and I assume most/all those eligible to compete in the Bradford meet will not hold the ASA Competitive Start Award!

Swimmers will need to be assessed by their coach and need to be signed off as competent to complete the dive start.  Regional Squads will be completing this test on the following Mondays in the end 25x25m pool with the floor depth at 1.3m.  Failure to attend and pass this award will mean swimmers are not safe to start from blocks into 1.2m and will have to start races in the water at this meet.

Junior League Final Tickets

Junior League Grand Final tickets are available from Emma Ferriman.

There are 45 tickets allocated for the Junior League Grand Final by the League. Each swimmer is entitled to one supporters ticket. Any parent wishing to go into a draw for a second ticket may do so.

Tickets are £20. This is inclusive of Coach travel and is non-negotiable. If you don't wish to take up your ticket please let Emma know and it will go into the draw. Please do not give your ticket to another parent.

To accept your entitled ticket; or accept your entitled ticket and request an additional ticket from the draw, you must contact Emma Ferriman no later than 9:00pm Friday 20th November. Please note you will not be able to request an additional ticket after this time. The draw for additional tickets will take place on Monday 23rd November.

Parking in Corby at the pool is very limited so the coach is probably the best option. Finally the children will be travelling to and from the event on the team coach so will need dropping and collecting from John Charles, so parents are better off travelling on the supporters coach.

Emma Ferriman contact details: 07812353820/emmaferriman@doctors.org.uk

Please note also that all selected swimmers are expected to travel to and from the event as a team.

Parent please make every effort to wear team colours if you are coming to support our swimmers.

Thanks
