Junior League Update

Hi all,

Firstly, a big well done for such fantastic racing at the White Rose round of the Junior League last month.  It was a great to see such team spirit and support from Leeds swimmers and parents.  I hope you all had a brilliant morning watching our swimmers put on such a great show for you all.  Congratulations to all swimmers who took part, this was a team effort to secure a lane in the final for the City of Leeds Swimming Club.

I can now share with you some information around the Grand Final which will be held at Corby International Pool, Northampton on Sunday 27th November.

The City of Leeds will be up against the following teams trying to defend their title of Junior League Champions.

Lane 1 - Leyland Barracudas

Lane 2 - City of Leeds

Lane 3 - Leamington Spa

Lane 4 - Newcastle Swim Team

Lane 5 - Lincoln Vulcans

Lane 6 - Nuneaton & Bedworth

Lane 7 - Nottingham Leander

Lane 8 - Kingston Royals

We hope to be able to confirm the team roster early next week.  We are required to submit our team by Monday 7th November; therefore the team will be selected from Swim England rankings following the short course NER's this weekend.  As always, the selection will be based on the best possible result for the team.  There may be some swimmers who competed in the A Team for the White Rose round that do not make the selection for the final due to the rankings changing position, however any swimmers who contributed to the A Teams qualification into the final will be awarded with a medal and certificate.

There are a couple of rule changes for the final.

  • The age for ALL swimmers is now as at 27th November 2022
  • The mixed F/S Canon can now be swum in any order of age or sex,  at the discretion of the coaches (provided the relay team comprises one boy and one girl from each of the four age groups)

Travel

The City of Leeds swimming club will be providing a swimmer's bus for the final.  All selected swimmers will be required to meet at 8:25am, John Charles on Sunday 27th December in club kit and travel to and from Corby as part of the team.  The team bus will be expected to arrive back at John Charles at 7pm (approx.).  Swimmers will need to bring a packed lunch and enough snacks and drinks to last throughout the day.  Unfortunately, due to the costings of coaches there will not be a supporters bus this year; however we are hoping that parents will team together and make the journey down to Corby to support our swimmers.  Spectator tickets for the final will be sold at £13.00.  There will be one allocated spectator ticket per swimmer, and then a couple of extra tickets which will go into a draw for those parents wishing to purchase an extra one.

Should you be selected, please confirm your place to the Junior League team leader Kevin Schofield at Kevin.Schofield@leeds.gov.uk at your earliest convenience.

Kind regards,

The Regional Team
