Monday 5th November - Land Training Cancellation

Hi All,

Unfortunately their will be no land training for the Regional Age Group squads on Monday 5th November. This is due to the pool floor been fixed in the Diving pit, so all the Diving Training Scheme must be land based in the dry land for the week.

This will not affect Monday morning training.  We will be able to use the diving pit on Monday morning before the work on fixing the floor starts.

This means that the land training schedule up to Christmas will be as follows

12 Years + = 12th November
11 Years  = 19th November
12 Years + = 26th November
11 Years = 3rd December
12 Years + = 10th December
11 Years = 17th December

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thursday AM Training

As it is the school holidays morning training will be open for all swimmers in Regional 1 & 2 on Thursday 1st of November.

We will be having a team Breakfast in the cafe after morning training for all that can attend.  I know some parents have to rush off to work but it would be great to have as many swimmers stay behind for breakfast as possible.  We will be finishing Thursday mornings session with the underwater challenge (50m fly kick underwater).  Any swimmer who completes the challenge will win themselves a free breakfast paid for by me.

Not long now until our next major meets, rise to the challenge, try your hardest, don't back off and the results will be rewarding.

'Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves.  It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go.  It helps us to find out what we are made of.  This is what we are all about.'

Halloween Kick Set

Like last year we will be doing the Halloween Kick set this week.  We hope to see some really good masks.  For those of you who have not done the Halloween Kick set before it is just a bit of fun where you will perform a hard kick set in the scariest mask you can find.

Easy Fundraising

The City of Leeds Swimming Club are looking for new ways to raise funds to support our swimmers.  We have recently registered with http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/.

Easyfundraising.org.uk helps charities, schools, sports clubs, community groups, and other good causes to raise money when their supporters shop online. So far they have raised over £3 million for causes throughout the UK.

It works in a similar way to many other loyalty shopping sites, but instead of earning points when you shop, you raise a donation for City of Leeds Swimming Club instead. It's as simple as that!

I am sure with Christmas fast approaching most of us will be doing our shopping online, so please register with easyfundraising, it really is a very simple way to boost funds for the club.

For information how to register click on the following link which is a letter from the supporters commitee explaining how.

For any more additional information please see Lucie Black or Sally Clynes.

Please remember anyone who has qualified for the NER's the first week in December must enter all events you have qualified for on Monday 5th November, even if you have only qualified for one event you should go compete.  The North Eastern Counties is the biggest competition in Regional Age Groups competition calendar and you will be racing the best swimmers in the North East of England.  Qualifying for the NER's is a big achievement and it would be good to see as many of you there as possible.

Me and Tom will start signing forms now.

Autumn Development Meet

Just to clear up some confusion......

The Autumn Development Meet should only be entered by those swimmers in Regional 1 & 2 who were too young to take part in the squad competition programme up to now and have not had a chance to race this season.  The rest of the squad will get another opportunity to race the 50's at the City of Leeds Grand Prix Meet in December.

As far as me and Tom are aware, the only swimmers from the Regional Squads that should be entering this meet are;

Ciara W - Regional 1
Stephanie - Regional 2

Regional Age Group Storm The Yorkshires

Well what can I say.  You are swimming amazing at the moment and so early on in the season.  Me and Tom were really impressed with you all over the weekend, especially with the improvement in your turn speed on the wall.  It was a long weekend but you all managed to keep spirits high to the end of the meet. Those swimmers who just missed out on your qualifying times, concentrate, work hard and you will hopefully grasp those times if you are swimming at Harrogate. Remember every millisecond you knock off is a step closer to those qualifying times, work every turn in training like you would in a race so it is perfect on the day.  We are targeting the North Eastern's which are the first week in December. With this at the top of Regional Age Groups competition calendar, anyone who has a time must enter even if it is only one event.  You have done the hard work and achieved the times so therefore deserve to swim against the fastest swimmers in the North East.  Lets go show them how its done!

This weekend at the Yorkshire's Regional 1 achieved 78 PB's out of 88 Swims13 more NER times, 29 more Yorkshire times for 2013, 2 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals.

National ARENA League Ponds Forge 2012

After Day 1 of the Winter Yorkshires the team reconvened on Saturday evening for the first round of the National ARENA League.

Competition was hot with City of Leeds trailing for some of the meet, but with 18 Firsts, 16 Second places and 10 Third place finishes City of Leeds showed their depth and character.

An exciting finale in the Men's 6 x 50 freestyle Canon, coming from behind, saw us clinch First place overall by just 3 points.

2nd - Sheffield 'A' Team 287

Yorkshires & Arena League

Hope you are all looking forward to racing this weekend.  As we are still in early season training the target this weekend is to be as close to your PB's as possible.  Remember work the turns and transitions into strokes, also when sprinting spend less time under the water - get up to the surface fast and race hard, this is where you can pick up seconds.
Training for both groups on Friday night will be just an hour to go over some last minute race tactics.  With nearly 100% of the group competing over the weekend in Sheffield there will be no training on Sunday night (14th October).

Northern Final Winners Photo

Hi all,

We would like to arrange a photo of the team with the trophy from the Northern Final for this coming Monday (15th October). We will aim to do the photo at 18:30pm, the best time for all of the training groups involved. Therefore please could you ensure that your child brings their Junior League T-Shirt for the evening, and preferably their Blue Shorts.

We will be arranging a few practice sessions in the run up to the final, but for the time being please continue with your child's own squad on a Wednesday night.

Thanks

Kevin, Tom, Elysha & Josh

Northern Domination

City of Leeds Junior League swimmers represented the White Rose League at Blackpool on October 7th.

The team and JL supporters club travelled in convoy to the Paletine Leisure Centre, and after a Parade of all the teams around the pool the team went to work with 7 Firsts from the first 8 events.

After 39 events City of Leeds were 49 points ahead and looking good to be champions again, but the team were determined not to be complacent and wanted to win everything.

From 49 events, the team produced 28 First place finishes and 8 Second place finishes; which is a magnificent 80% Top 2 Finishes.

In the end the club swam to a 66 point supremacy of the Northern Junior Leagues and preparation will begin for the trip to Corby and the retention of the Inter-Junior League Final.

City of Leeds - 256
Preston - 190
Northampton - 188
Stockport - 178

Standard Times Formula

Hi All,

I have uploaded the standard times formula under the swim meets section of the blog.  This is the formula that everyone must use to work out entry times for swimmers who do not have an "official" time to enter a race.   This time can be used to enter the City of Leeds meets as agreed by Ophelia.
