Christmas Party - URGENT!

Hello.

Right, the plan for the Christmas party,
Friday 17th December at Armley.
7.30pm until 8.15/8.30pm Inflatable pool party.
8.30/8.45pm until 10pm Food/ Music/ Party at Dany's Cafe, literally just over the road from the pool.
Party wear please, get yourselves all glamored up!
We have managed to negotiate a good price for the pool and food, Which means the combined cost for the full night including food will be £4/£5 depending what food you order.

I NEED PAYING TO CONFIRM YOUR PLACE BY WEDNESDAY AT THE VERY LATEST, SO I CAN ORDER THE FOOD. IF YOU DO NOT PAY BY THEN YOU WILL MISS OUT ON THE FOOD.

Sounds a bit heavy I know but I do not want people missing out.
Siblings welcome for food only.
So please try pay me Sunday, and I'm sure we will have a lovely night.

Thanks,

Ryan.

Xmas Party
After all the great swimming this season me and Ryan thought you all deserve a Christmas Party.  This will take place on Friday 17th at Armley.  We have booked the inflatable from 7.30 - 8.15pm (we would have liked it for longer but the centre will only give us it for 45 min) then after we will go over the road and eat in Danny's Cafe.  The party should finish between 9.45 and 10 ish. The price to go on the inflatable will be £1 per swimmer and we are still negotiating a deal with Danny's Cafe for pizzas but we will let you know as soon as we do.  Parents are welcome to join us for food over in Danny's with the swimmers if you like.

I now have the entry form for the Development meet on the 23rd January 2011.  Each time trial is £2 each. I have entered all the swimmers events on the entry form that I have received, Ryan will be coming around collecting the money along with the swimmers ASA registration number over the next few sessions.  The deadline for money in to Ryan is Thursday 16th December.   Entry is not confirmation that swimmers will defiantly swim due to numbers.  Priority will go to swimmers with no 200m times on the rankings and then swimmers who are closest to Yorkshire times.  If you are unfortunate to be rejected you will be refunded your £2 per event.

Alex's Report on the Weekend!

City Of Leeds Victorious

Arena Junior Inter-League Swimming Competition

City Of Leeds won the Arena Junior Inter-League Final for the first time in their history on Sunday 28th November 2010.

Teams competing in the final were:
  • City Of Leeds
  • Hillingdon Borough
  • Boldmere
  • City Of Liverpool
  • Southport Aqua
  • City Of Derby
  • City Of Norwich UEA
  • City Of Newcastle

After setting off in decidedly chilly conditions, which prevented City Of Newcastle travelling, the team and supporters arrived at the International Pool in Corby for the final.

After the formalities were completed, the swimming started and City Of Leeds got off to their now traditional strong start, winning the first four events to take an early lead. City Of Leeds were instantly pegged back and the competition began to hot up. At the first points check City Of Leeds held a slender 20 point lead over nearest rivals Hillingdon Borough with City Of Liverpool close in 3rd. The competition continued with teams trading race victories and fighting hard for every point. By the half way stage City Of Leeds had extended their lead to 43 points with Hillingdon and Liverpool tied in 2nd place.

City of Leeds were never to loose this lead and ran out eventual winners with 16 race victories and 39 finishes in the top 3 positions. The final standings were:

  • City Of Leeds 322
  •  Hillingdon Borough 274
  •  City Of Liverpool 254
  •  Southport Aqua 223
  •  Boldmere 214
  •  City Of Derby 212
  •  City Of Norwich UEA 191
  •  City Of Newcastle 0 (DNC)
City Of Leeds victory was the product of an excellent team performance and outstanding support, with our colourful and vocal supporters cheering the team all the way.

Kiani Campbell-Grady and Liam Birrell won best in age group awards and Liam Birrell picked up the top overall boy trophy.

Well done to swimmers, coaches and supporters for a fantastic event and an outstanding victory.

Junior League Team Photo

There will be a team photo for all swimmers who competed in the Junior League tonight (Monday 29th November) at 7.15pm.  This clashes with our session so I will get swimmers out at five past 7 and they can get changed on poolside by putting their kit on over their costumes.  Please do not forget to bring Junior League yellow polo t shirts and City of Leeds shorts for the photo.

Kevin

Leeds Come Home Victorious!

Well done to all the swimmers who took part in the Junior Swim League.  After 3 rounds of swimming Leeds came out the strongest in all 3 rounds and were crowned the National Junior League champions yesterday.  It was a great day with lots of good racing and fun and was good to see you all working together as a team.  Parents, thank you for all the effort that went in to supporting the team, you were all excellent and it really helped motivate the swimmers.  A special well done to Liam Birell who achieved a top boy award.

The final results were

City of Leeds - 322
Hillingdon - 274
Liverpool 254
Southport Aqua - 223
Boldmere - 214
Derby - 212
City of Norwich - 191
Newcastle - DNC

Also well done to the swimmers who competed at the Sheffield meet, I heard there were speeding tickets, pb's, medals and more Yorkshire times.  GREAT!!

Keep it up team! Laughing out loud

Kevin

A few more things about the development gala...

Hello Everyone.
I would just like to clear a few things up...

  • First of all  we cannot guarantee any swims, we have a limited number of places available to us, that we share with all other C and D groups.
  • Sunday 23rd Jan is the date of the gala.
  • If you do not have a time for a particular swim, we will be TT them in training.  This will then give us an entry time, that we can consider.
  • 200 IM is also part of the programme, I don't think that was clear in the last post.
Email me with any questions.

Ryan

Rejections, Entries and Swimmers with no 200m times on rankings!!!

Hello everyone,

There is now a new system where all swimmers entry times for galas must be achieved in a licensed meet and must be from the ASA rankings.  Previously coaches were allowed to conduct time trials to enter swimmers into meets such as B Grade's, however most meets are no longer accepting this method of entry.  Due to this there is now a problem where some swimmers have no time to enter a meet, so therefore cannot achieve qualifying times e.g Yorkshire's.  This will mainly effect the younger swimmers in the group who have never swum 200's before and also the swimmers who were rejected from the B Grade next month.

To solve this problem The City of Leeds Swimming Club will be providing an opportunity for swimmers to get entry times by running 200m events in all 4 strokes at the next Development meet.  This will enable swimmers to achieve times that will then be listed on the ASA rankings so they can enter meets in the future.

This Development meet is open to
  • swimmers 8-12 years old.
  • swimmers who are within 8 seconds of a Yorkshire time, and we deem it reasonable that the swimmer can achieve it.
  • swimmers who do not have a 200m time in a particular event (this been the main priority).

Swimmers can only do 200's, no 50's in C group.   50's will only be for E and D group swimmers.  There will be no prizes in the gala for 200m swims, the 200's are designed strictly for time only.  Due to the time slot the Development meet has, the Club cannot guarantee all swimmers will swim, there will be 2 heats for each 200m time trial and the fastest swimmers (closest to Yorkshire times) will be picked to swim first.

If you think you meet the above criteria or have any questions please don't hesitate to ask one of us this week.  All entries for this event must be in by the end of this week.

Yours,

C Central Coaching Team

Junior League Final

The Junior League Final is this Sunday (27st November).  Swimmers must arrive at the Aquatics Centre for 7:45am, where a team photo will be taken before boarding the coach.  Please wear City of Leeds shorts and the Junior League T Shirts (Alex will give out on Wednesday) for the picture.  Don't forget your packed lunches and plenty of drinks as it will be a long day.

Parents, remember the swimmers need all the support you can give so lets see you in your Leeds colours prepared with your chants, banners etc.

We have a good chance of winning the final, make sure starts, finishes, takeovers, turns are perfect this week in training and most importantly swim the fastest you have ever swum on Sunday.  LETS BEAST IT!!!!!

Training on Wednesdays will return back to normal, 6.30 - 7.30 pm the week after the final.

The video Above...

Hello Guys,

I had an assembly today (Yes I do still have them at 17!) and it was about who inspires you and what inspires you.
They showed us this video. I thought it was something that all the swimmers could think about, so I would like to watch it, as I think its really motivational.

Ignore the adverts, I can't get rid of them.

Cheers!

BAGCAT (25m) Championships

Some fantastic swims again over the weekend.  38 PB's achieved out of 40 races and 7 medals, well done everyone.  Jacob won a Bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle and Jessica Manning achieved 4 Golds, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

Jessica has now moved up to Alex's group.  Best of luck Jess!

Overall the swimming was excellent and I was very impressed how you all organised yourselves to do your blood flow exercises without me having to say anything.  You all looked very professional.  I thought all your turns looked faster when you raced this weekend, however distance and kicks off the wall still needs to be improved.  Remember keep practising in training and then in a race it will be easy.

The PB sheet should be back on by the end of next week.  If anyone spots a mistake with their time please let me know and I will change it.

Keep up the hard work guys, me and Ryan are very proud of you all at the moment.

Harrogate Success

Another excellent weekend of swimming team!  As a group you achieved 73 PB's out of 89 swims, 24 more North Eastern times, 6 Golds, 5 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.  Very impressed guys, Well Done!!

This week will be HELL WEEK.  Every session will be hard as it is the school holidays and we have the North Eastern's in sight, rise to the challenge, try your hardest, don't back off and the results will be rewarding.

I also had a request for a team breakfast after morning training on Thursday like we did on the last school holidays.  I know some parents have to rush off to work but it would be great to have as many swimmers stay behind for breakfast as possible.

I have also come across 3 new documents for the blog which you maybe interested in and will be uploaded soon.  They are Fuelling for Performance, Preventing Illness and 50 Things You

Attendance...

Hello Everyone.

For those of you that don't know, the scheme are taking Attendance very seriously this season, and I am tasked with monitoring it. I have a spreadsheet that tells me exactly who is attending the correct number of sessions every week for their age.
Below is a reminder for the minimum sessions required each week Dependant upon age.

Age
8
9
10
11
12
Sessions
5
5
6
6
6

This means that when you are 10, you need to be doing at least one morning a week, but we still like to see the younger swimmers experiencing morning training from a young age. Attendance is a massive part of what the senior coaches look at for moves.
This is why I cannot stress the importance of reporting absence before the session wherever possible, so we have a reason for the absence.
The way Kevin and myself plan the training is based upon the LTAD (long term athlete development), so when sessions are missed, the swimmers then miss a particular part of what we cover every week. For example, Sunday nights are most likely sprint sets, so if Sunday nights are regularly missed, the swimmer will struggle to develop as a sprinter.

We do not want people  having to move out of our squad on the basis of attendance only, so please attempt your minimum number of sessions a week.

Any questions, speak to me after a session or contact me by email.

Yours,

Ryan.

The weekend!

Hello Guys!

Well what can I say?
What a really really good weekend!
Such a shame we couldn't be there, but I have seen the results and they are fantastic. Some really good PB's, some fantastic podium positions and top 8's. We looked really good and you did what I asked, and thats to show Yorkshire what C Central are all about.
I do not have any figures yet, but all I know is that we had a very high PB rate.
Well done guys!

Lets now move onwards and upwards, we now have a good platform to build on for the NER's and the rest of the season.

Yours.

Ryan.

I will be leaving you all for 10 days after Thursdays session.  Some of you may know I won 2 Golds with my team (Leeds Pheonix) in the the National Speed Championships in March this year and I qualified to compete in the World Lifesaving Championships held in Alexandria, Egypt.  There will be 16 swimmers competing from Leeds Pheonix, in my team there is me Matt Jagger, Richard Jagger and Tom Jagger who some of you may know as they also swim for the City of Leeds Swimming Club in Regional Senior Squad.  I have arranged cover and written the sessions for the coaches taking you in my absence.

Monday 18th Oct - James (Am)

Make sure you all behave, listen to the coaches and train hard whilst I am away.  Good luck to you all at the Yorkshire's this weekend, apologies for missing you all race.  You all swum really well at the Junior Open meet with some fantastic PB's, lets see if you can do the same again.  Remember fast turns, fast leg kicks off all walls and when you feel yourself tiring think technique.

Swimmers make sue you see Lyn or Alex before and after your swims for race tips and feedback.

The race warm up for this weekend is
1 x 300 Fc/ Bk
1 x 200 IM (drill on Fly)
8 x 50 Race Stroke (odds- fast/easy, evens- easy/ fast)

Get out fast on the first length, hold the second length, work the 3rd length, switch the legs on as fast as you can on the last length.  Try and aim to put a little bit more effort in on each length and don't slow down into the turns.

GOOD LUCK!, SWIM FAST Smile

Wednesday training

Wednesday Nights Training!

All swimmers who are competing in the National Junior League final on November 28th will train as a group with me and Alex on Wednesday nights from 6.30 - 8.00pm.  Swimmers will be developing speed and sprint skills, practising turns, dives and takeovers etc so they go to the final with the best possible chance of winning.  This will also give the swimmers practice at racing in their selected teams before the actual event.

New look Blog....

Hello Guys.

The blog has has a bit of a facelift, please email me with feedback. I was getting bored of the old design.
I am aware the text at the top clashing colour making it unreadable! For some reason I cant get a background fill on that section.... Sure I will find a solution!

Yours,

Ryan.

We are Leeds, Leeds, Leeds!

What a fantastic and exciting day of racing in Lincoln.  I would like to congratulate all of you on your behaviour, cheering, team spirit, swimming and most importantly winning the National Junior League Northern Final.  You were all ace.  Back to hard training now ready to kick ass in the national final on November the 28th in Liverpool.

Well done to all swimmers who competed at the Junior Open Meet.  From what I have heard from Lyn and Ryan, more NER times and medals were achieved by the group which is brilliant.

One week of training now before we have to focus on our next two big events, the Yorkshire's and the Arena League at the weekend in Sheffield.  Keep listening and training hard and the pb's will keep coming.  Warning to swimmers who are close to winter north eastern times, this will be your last chance to achieve them as the entries will take place on Monday 11th October.

Parents Message

I am sure some of you will now will be suffering from banging headaches and very sore throats.  It was great to see you all having so much fun on the balcony as you cheered for your team, hope you all had fun. Thank you for all the support you gave.  Lets see if when we go to the final we can go with not just the best swimmers, but the best supporters aswell.  Some of the other clubs looked amazing.  Lets stand out, get planning now! There is plenty of time to come up with some chants for our team.  I want to see drums, dressing up, banners, flags, tambourines, horns, wigs and face paints.  The more noise you make the faster the swimmers will swim.

Well Done TEAM!!

Great Start To The New Season!!

Saturday's Meet (02/10/10)

I was very very pleased by the quality of racing today. To say we have just started the season, the amount of new pb's achieved was excellent.

62 Pb's out of 82 Swims
5 Golds
4 Silvers
4 Bronzes
10 more NER qualifying times

Please remember the North Eastern's (NER) in November are short course, so any times NER times achieved today need to be converted to short course by using the converter to the right below when entering the meet. Anyone who was a second away from an NER, please check your time using the converter as there is a good chance that when converted from long course to short course you will be in the qualifying time.

General areas for improvement
- underwater kicking off turns
- rolling shoulders on backstroke
- holding the same breathing pattern all the way through races on Fc and Fly
- clean entry (no splash) on Fc and Bk

A strong start to the season everyone, I'm impressed. Keep up the hard work. I was also pleased to see the attendance was high at our first morning training back after the break. Well done C Central!

Training tomorrow night...

Guys,

Training will finish at 8.30pm tomorrow night because of the galas. We do expect you all to attend.
It will be easy, we promise.
It is better for them to swim the night before than not to.

Thanks,

Ryan.

A bit of something for you all to watch...

Parents Help Wanted!!!

Are you one of those parents who hates sitting on a hot poolside balcony for hours on end waiting for your child to swim, or one of those parents who wants to be more involved in the sport? Well here is the perfect opportunity to change that.

The club is currently asking if there are any swimmers parents who would like to help team manage on poolside at Gala's. This will mainly involve working with the younger swimmers at events making sure that every swimmer speaks to their coach before and after their swims, and that swimmers are sent to their races on time with their heat and lane number. Some events will include petrol and lunch costs paid for by the club.
If you are interested in assisting the coaches and swimmers in future events or would like to find out more information, please send me an email containing your name and number which I can pass on on to the committee.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Kevin

Behaviour in the Changing Rooms...

Hello all.
It has now been brought to our attention that the behaviour of the members of our squad in the changing rooms has now reached an unacceptable manner. Within the last week we have had two complaints about the children of our squad, from both pool staff and parents.
This behaviour needs to stop as of today. We have been through this before and it did calm down, but it has got worse again.
Even though it is not all of the swimmers messing around, it cannot continue. If it does, then we will ask all parents to go and wait for their child in the changing rooms afterwards and supervise them getting changed where suitable.
This is something we do not want to do, but equally we do not want a reputation building up about the squad.
Please can all parents please discuss and stress the importance of behaviour in the changing rooms with their child ASAP, as did myself and Kevin last night.
Yours,

Ryan.
