White Rose Junior League - 3rd June

Please ensure that your child arrives promptly at 08:45, John Charles, Leeds on Saturday 3rd June to check in with team managers in the dance studio (upstairs before the balcony doors). There will be a swimmers team meeting to explain the schedule and team tactics for the day.

Races will be announced on the morning of the competition in case we have to make any last-minute changes. The team lists can be found here.

A Team

B Team

All swimmers should be wearing Team Kit, if your child does not have team kit, please ensure they are wearing blue and yellow to replicate the team colours as close as possible.

A polite notice to parents who are coming to support your team, please also aim to wear club colours and also try to sit together as a team on the balcony.  Don't forget your hats, wigs, horns, face paints etc.  The louder you cheer the faster the swimmers will go!

Swimmers, please arrive and warm up in the costume you wish to compete in.  There will be no time after the warmup to change into racing suits.

Children will not be allowed to leave poolside, this is a fast and ferocious competition, team managers will not have time to hunt swimmers down from the balcony.  Therefore, please ensure your children have appropriate food and hydration for the morning.

You are reminded that this is a TEAM event, and as such all members of the team will stay until the end (estimated 12:30, 1pm latest).  Win or lose, we will show the integrity that our role models show and applaud our fellow competitors.

Photo Consent

We would like to do a team photo for social media and any results posts.  Please make sure the online photo declaration form is filled out prior to Saturday mornings event.  Anyone who has not completed the form is not allowed to take part in any team photos. The link can be found here.

Tattoos

In preparation for the Junior League Anna Darnell and Helen Ellis will be selling City of Leeds tattoos, 3 for £1.  Due to the tight schedule on the morning of competition we advise swimmers to apply their tattoos at home before the competition.

Swimmers, please remember everything you have practised during training.  This will be a tough competition; every millisecond counts in an event like this. Remember shallow dives, kick hard, get up, race hard and don't slow down into the finishes.  BE CAREFUL ON THE TAKEOVERS!!!! It is better to go late than go early.  We need to grab every point we can, getting disqualified can cause the team to lose vital points.

The winning team will go through to the Grand Final held in Corby, Northampton on Sunday 26th November.

Please note, the A Team on the day of the White Rose round is not guaranteed to be the same team selected for the Grand Final.  The team for the final will be selected from Swim England rankings following the Winter Yorkshires.  Any times posted in the White Rose competition will also be taken into consideration for selection into the final.

Good Luck Everyone!  We hope you have a fun, exciting and enjoyable day.

Equipment Reminder

Can you please take some time to look at kit bags over the next week and give equipment a good clean! We have several individuals who keep reminding us that snorkels have gone mouldy, or they have broken! Please also take this opportunity to check for any missing equipment and replace it as soon as possible so that swimmers can take part in all parts of the session with the correct apparatus.

Here's a quick reminder of what is needed:

       ·        Fins

·        Paddles (small/finger paddles)

·        Snorkel

·        Pullbuoy

·        Kickboard

·        Drinks Bottles

·        Spare Cap & Goggles

Most of this equipment is available on a Monday evening. If you require a replacement STS Cap, you can purchase one from the Aquatics Centre Reception (you will need to keep the receipt and pass it to your coach, so that they can give you the cap). Please keep an eye on your child's kit bags on a regular basis to ensure nothing has gone missing!  Any team kit can be purchased through the online City of Leeds shop here (sizes can be tried on a Monday evening in the Denison Suite).

Session Requirements

There are 7 sessions available throughout the week, this will be different for everyone depending on age. Swimmers are reminded that upon taking your place in Regional Squad you have agreed to attend 1 early morning session per week (Monday or Thursday).  When a swimmer misses a session, they should try their best to make this up when they can.  Attendance requirements for both squads can be found in the Swim Training Scheme Handbook here.

Pre Pool

Whilst there is no coach led pre pool, swimmers are expected to arrive 10-15 minutes before the session and loosen off.  This will help to prevent injury and prepare the body for the pool workout.  The squads pre pool routine can be found here.

Keep working hard and best of luck to everyone in the last few meets of the season.
