Welsh Summer Meet Changes

Swim Wales have changed the entry date for us to enter the Welsh open meet to Monday 3rd July at 10am. They have also changed the qualifying criteria from January 2023 to January 2022.

We have spoken to Swim Wales and they have advised us that last year over 100 Welsh entries were rejected and as they have increased their membership fees they feel it only fair this year to open entries to the rest of the Wales swimmers before everyone else.

Since their entries opened on Monday a lot of races are now full.

The female 50, 100, 200, 400 & 800 free, 200IM, 50 back and 50 fly are already completely full.

The male races in the above have some, but very limited spaces.

With this in mind we unfortunately will not be able to take all swimmers that have expressed interest.

If there are any swimmers that do not qualify for 4 or more races excluding the ones listed above we recommend you do not enter. If you do decide to withdraw from the trip please inform Kevin at kevin.schofield@leeds.gov.uk so we can refund your deposit.

We also understand that with the above races being full some swimmers will change their mind about entering.

We are deeply disappointed at this.

Entries will be filled on a first come first serve basis, this will go live at 10:00am on Monday 3rd July and close at 17:00 on Monday 10th July.  Swimmers are advised to enter ALL events that they currently qualify for which still have spaces.  Those swimmers that are successful entering will not know for sure what races they have until entries close on 10th July and Swim Wales issue the rejection list.  If swimmers do not get enough entries to make the trip worthwhile Swimmers can then withdraw from races and Swim Wales have assured us this can be refunded.

Here is the link to enter.  Payment on the day is by PayPal and you will also need your swimmers ASA number.

The revised meet pack can be found here.

Consideration standards can be found here.

Best of luck.

Below is a link to the Yorkshire short course qualifying times.  Your challenge is to attempt to make the qualifying standard for as many different events as you can before entries close (18th Septemberafter the City of Leeds September Meet. Good Luck.

Upper Qualifying Times (13 & Over)

Lower Qualifying Times (12 & Under)

Not long to go now until our Olympics (Welsh Nationals & the Sheffield Summer Meet).  This is the last stretch now until the end of the season, try to attend every session between now and then to give you the best possible chance of success.  Let's smash it!!!!!!

Remember............
Always practice Olympic starts, turns and finishes in training and then transfer this into your race.

Lack of concentration on skills in training only means you will be getting great at performing poor starts, turns and finishes.

Speed + no skill = only good until the skilful swimmers catch up
Skill + no speed = looks pretty but can't quite manage to achieve the qualifying time
Speed + Great Skills = recipe for success

Keep Training Hard!
