Regional Squads Training Changes - October 2024

Please take note of the following changes to training for the Regional Squads during October due to pool bookings and competitions.

City of Leeds Autumn Development Meet Entries

Entries for the Autumn Development Meet held at John Charles on Saturday 9th November are now open for entry online.  Entries will close on Monday 7th October.
- This is for swimmers in Regional Development who are not old enough to take part in the Regional Competition Calendar (Anyone under 9 years old, age at 9th November 2024). 
- Swimmers should enter ALL events

City of Leeds September Meet Info & Training Changes

Below are the arrival times for this weekend's competition.  We are delighted to be able to have 600 spectator tickets. The tickets will be £5 per session and can be purchased here.  Kids 12 and under go free. Unfortunately, we will not be able to print any programmes to hand out over the day, but please find the draft programme here.  Any changes already sent through to Leeds Entries team will not appear on the programme but will be correct for the start sheets on the day.
 
Just a reminder that it is City of Leeds policy to arrive and check in with Team Manging staff 30 minutes before the warm up.  Swimmers must make themselves known to the team manager on arrival at the pool so they can be ticked off on the squad register.  Swimmers should also inform the team manager when they leave at the end of the day or if they need to leave poolside during the meet.  Team Managers will look after swimmers on poolside throughout each session. During lunch, or if a child leaves poolside during the meet, they are the responsibility of their parent / guardian / a nominated responsible adult.

Could we also ask parents to please ensure their swimmers have suitable footwear on whilst walking around, particularly up and down the balcony steps and especially when wet.  It will be another warm weekend at Leeds, so please also ensure your swimmers take on lots of fluids, there are water fountains situated throughout JCCS.  JCCS Management have kindly asked that there are NO camping chairs brought to the competition this weekend, this is due to fire regulations.  Anyone in possession of a camping chair will be asked to remove it from the venue.
 
MAK Swimwear will be in attendance this weekend, they will be based in the dance studio. 
 
Our supporters committee will be selling ice pops so bring some change as they're perfect for whilst you're sat in the heat. There will be a raffle and tombola at the door too.

It's how you prepare months before in the training pool that will determine your performance at the main event.  Your ruthless attendance, quality and consistency of your training will serge you forwards to a result you will be happy with!

Training Cancellation - Monday 23rd September AM

Hi all,
 
We have just been informed by John Charles Management that the shutters to the Aquatics Centre are stuck and at the moment there is no entry to the building. 
 
They are currently trying to get an engineer on site, but is highly unlikely that it will be fixed before the morning.  Therefore, there will be No AM Training on Monday 23rd September.

Athlete Development Workshops

The Swim England North East Region are please to make available three different Athlete Development Workshops each covering different subject areas which aim to support the development of athletes aged from 11 to 16 years from across all our aquatic disciplines.
All virtual classroom workshops will be educational, informative, interactive and delivered by experienced, qualified practitioners. Each workshop will also include a Q&A section. The three separate workshops will cover the following subjects:
Nutrition
  • Understanding the importance of a heathy balanced diet and hydration for athlete health and good performance
    • What to eat for training and competition
    • Ideas for snacks and meals
    • Portion sizes and the importance of quality and quantity
An Introduction to Sports Psychology and Goal Setting
  • Outcome, and process goals
    • Developing useful mental skills
    • Positive behaviours
    • Relaxation
Developing a Performance Lifestyle
  • Time management
    • Prioritisation and planning
    • Communication
    • Recovery
Each of the workshops are schedule to take place as follows:

All mem­bers and par­ents are invit­ed to attend the Annu­al Gen­er­al Meet­ing of the City of Leeds Swim­ming Club on the 21st October in the Denison Suite.
Any pro­pos­als for change to the rules to be con­sid­ered at the AGM must be received in writ­ing by the Hon­orary Secretary.
Nom­i­na­tions are invit­ed for both officer ship and sup­port­er mem­bers of the City of Leeds Swim­ming Exec­u­tive Com­mit­tee and should be sub­mit­ted to the Hon­orary Sec­re­tary. Nom­i­na­tion forms are avail­able from the Club Chairman and must have the sig­na­tures of the nom­i­nee, pro­pos­er and sec­on­der and all must be paid up mem­bers of the Club.
Please make every effort to attend the above meet­ing. This is your Club and the Annu­al Gen­er­al Meet­ing is your oppor­tu­ni­ty to hear from the Exec­u­tive Com­mit­tee about devel­op­ments dur­ing the year and to put for­ward thoughts you may have about the future run­ning of the Club or the way it is managed.

Regional Squads PB Update

Following the release of the 2025 Long Course Yorkshire times, here is an update on the squads personal best times against the qualification times.  Hopefully this will help with planning your swimmers upcoming competition entries.

Yorkshire Long Course Qualifying Times 2025

Hi all,

Below is a link to the Long Course Yorkshire Qualifying Times for 2025.  Remember the aim is to qualify for the Yorkshires in as many events as possible.  Please bare this in mind when entering the upcoming competitions as I know some of you are very close.  Swimmers should then enter ALL EVENTS they have qualified for at the Yorkshire's as the competition is over three weekends. 

Please be aware that the last competition in our calendar to qualify for the Yorkshire's is the City of Leeds New Year Meet.  The Yorkshire entries closing date will be Monday 6th January 2025.

Any times achieved Short Course will need to be converted to Long Course using the converter in the link below to see if you have achieved the long course qualifying time.  Squad PB sheets will be adjusted with the new qualifying times shortly.

Entries for the Winter Yorkshires are now open online and will close at 21:30 on Monday 18th September.  No late entries will be accepted. 

Swimmers can check which events they currently qualify for here.
(Any events with a tick box and time means you have qualified and can enter that event)
 
Swimmers are advised to enter ALL EVENTS they have qualified in. 
 
Please note, this is a Level 2 meet.  Only swimmers who have swum faster than the qualifying times from 1st September 2022 are eligible for entry into this competition.

Snow Frills Entries

Hi all,
 
Entries for the Snow Frills Meet held at Ponds Forge Sheffield on Saturday 30th November & Sunday 1st December are now open online and will close for entry at 21:30 on Monday 16th September.  No late or unpaid entries will be accepted. 
 
Entries Open to Ages 9+ (Age as at 1st December 2024)
Races available:
50m all strokes
100m all strokes
200m all strokes
200m IM

Swimmers are advised to enter at least 2 -3 races per session. 
Remember when planning your races, the aim is to achieve as many Yorkshire and NER Qualifying times as possible.  Once you have achieved a Yorkshire or NER qualifying time, you should concentrate on updating times in other events.

Please note - as this was a Level 4 meet, only qualification times achieved for the Yorkshire Championships will count.  Any NER times achieved will need to be swum again at a Level 1-3 competition to count towards qualification.  Level 4 times cannot be used for NER's or above.

A great start to the 2024-25 season.  Keep up the hard work and try to attend as many sessions as possible going into the next few competitions.

Both squads are due to race in the City of Leeds September Sprints Meet on Saturday 7th September.  Below are the meet details.  Please remember that it is City of Leeds Club policy to arrive on poolside and check in with the team managing staff 30 minutes before pool warm up.
 
Due to the competition, there will be no training on Saturday 7th September AM.  Friday 6th September will be an hour (18:30-19:30 - Regional Development), (18:15-19:15 - Regional Performance).
