Junior League Final

Just a few last minute messages before Sunday.

Tattoos

Due to the very tight schedule in Corby on Sunday we ask that all swimmers who want to wear tattoos to please apply them before arriving at John Charles on Sunday morning.  Please see Kay Jackson if you do not already have some shark tattoos.

Racing Suits

There will be only 4 minutes to get changed into team kit and be ready in the changing village for the parade.  Due to this swimmers will need to change into their racing suits before the warm up.  Swimmers are advised to keep their hat and goggle on them at all times or zipped up in their bag.  The competition is going to be very fast and we do not want a team missing their race because of lost hats and goggles.

Car Parking at John Charles

The John Charles Aquatics Centre will be open until 9:00pm on Sunday due to an event that is taking place.  Parents are advised to park in the long stay car park.  The car park at the front of the Aquatics Centre is a maximum of 3 hours parking.  Leaving your car in the short stay car park may result in you receiving a parking ticket.

I hope you are all excited for the big day!

Easy Fundraising

The City of Leeds Swimming Club are always looking for new ways to raise funds to support our swimmers.  The Club is registered with Easy Fundraising.

Easyfundraising.org.uk helps charities, schools, sports clubs, community groups, and other good causes to raise money when their supporters shop on line. So far they have raised over £3 million for causes throughout the UK.

It works in a similar way to many other loyalty shopping sites, but instead of earning points when you shop, you raise a donation for City of Leeds Swimming Club instead. It's as simple as that!

I am sure with Christmas fast approaching most of us will be doing our shopping on line, so please register with easy fundraising, it really is a very simple way to boost funds for the club.

For information how to register click on the following link which is a letter from the supporters committee explaining how.

Junior League National Final (Sunday 26th November)

The gala will take place at:

Corby International Pool,
Parkland Gateway,
Corby,
Northampton,
NN17 1QB

All swimmers will need to arrive at John Charles no later than 8:15 am ready for the coach to depart at 8:30 am sharp. We will not be allowed in to the building until 12:15 so we strongly advise that children bring a warm/waterproof jacket with them as we could be eating on arrival outside.  Warm-up starts at 12:30 pm with the parade of teams at approximately 13:30 pm. We hope to be back at JCC for 7:30 pm.  All swimmers will be required to travel to and from the meet on the team coach.

If your child has a team track suit they should travel to and from the event in it.  Each swimmer must wear their Junior League Final 2017 whilst the event is taking place and for all team photographs.  Junior League Final 2017 T Shirts will be handed out on Sunday.  Please also ensure your child has another Leeds t-shirt to wear on the way home.

Obviously this will be a long day, so the children will need enough food and drinks to last the day. They should not be given all of their food for the day straight away, as they tend to eat too much on the journey down to Corby. Swimmers will not be allowed to leave our teams marshalling area to collect drinks from parents etc during the meet. Therefore please ensure they are adequately supplied with nutritious snacks and enough hydration on arrival at the pool.

Swimmers please remember everything you have practiced.  This will be a tough competition, every millisecond counts in an event like this so remember shallow dives, kick hard, get up and race hard and don't slow down into finishes.  BE CAREFUL ON THE TAKEOVERS!!!! It is better to go late than early.  We need to grab every point we can, getting disqualified can cause the team to loose 8 points, this we don't want.

Parents please wear team colours!!!  Remember the louder you shout the faster the swimmers will go, nobody should have a voice left by the end of the competition.  We look forward to seeing you all dressed up in your hats, wigs, face paints etc.  Make as much noise as you can!  Drums, horns, flags, floating sharks, chants we want to see you go all out!  We do not just want the best swimmers on the day, we want the best supporters on the balcony too.  We are all part of the same team, please make sure you get behind every swimmer.

Kay Jackson (Megan Sharp's mum) will be selling shark tattoos for the Junior League Grand Final.  You can purchase 2 tattoos for £1 from her during the week or on the Junior League bus.

I am also delighted to let you know that we will have a special guest attending (Adam Peaty) to present the medals to the swimmers at the end of the event. Due to this, I hope you will appreciate that the day will be slightly extended for the presentations.  There will be NO individual photos with Adam at this time due to the time constraints.  If there is time after all the teams have had their Age Group photos and Adam is still available, by all means do ask him. Please do not be offended if you have had your photo and you are asked to move on to allow others to have their photos taken; as said we have very limited time to be able to complete this for all of the teams.

TIMELINE & PROGRAMME FOR THE DAY
  • 12:15 – Balcony & changing room access – due to lack of locker space please keep your kit with your team poolside (in a tidy manner)

  • 12.30 Safety announcement and warm-up to 13.00

  • 13:00 – End of warm-up ONLY 4 mins to get ready for the parade and line up in the changing village – IT WILL BE BUSY – please listen to the stewards, they are trying to help the parade go smoothly

  • 13:00 – OFFICIALS to line up along flume barrie

  • 13.05 - Team parade from changing village (– teams to be to lead by a ref/starter)

  • 13.25 - Officials parade from 'flume line-up', introduction of Referees and Starter

  • 13.27 - National Anthem – please stand still for this and if you feel appropriate, cheer at the end

  • 13.28 - Safety announcement revisited - first and second race competitors to go to start ready behind blocks

  • 13.30 - Racing begins

Hope you all have a fun and exciting day.

Good Luck Everyone! Smile

Swimmers in Regional Performance are to report to Harrison on Saturday and Lyn on Sunday.
Please be advised that due to Craig Robertson's wedding taking place this weekend Kevin and Harrison will be arriving late on Saturday am as they have to attend morning training with National Squad at John Charles first.  Phil will be looking after the swimmers for the warm up.  Swimmers should know their race warm up for the weekend as it will be practised on Friday night before the meet.

"When I go out and race, I'm not trying to beat opponents, I'm trying to beat what I have done ... to beat myself, basically. People find that hard to believe because we've had such a bias to always strive to win things. If you win something and you haven't put everything into it, you haven't actually achieved anything at all. When you've had to work hard for something and you've got the best you can out of yourself on that given day, that's where you get satisfaction from."
Ian Thorpe

"I concentrate on preparing to swim my race and let the other swimmers think about me, not me about them."

Important Notice From Swim England

The introduction of online membership (OMS) in 2012 streamlined the administration of renewals data.  This means that the clubs are now submitting their ASA renewals earlier every year.  To make sure that clubs and members are properly insured for the activities they are taking part in, we have made the decision to bring the submission of the renewals deadline forward to the 28th February 2018.

It is important that we get returns to SE by their deadline, as failure to do so results in us being heavily fined and suspended from the SE.  This means for us, as a club, that we will now have to close books for checking in mid February, a month earlier than previous years, in order to hit their deadline.  You will only have six weeks instead of ten to pay your ASA renewal.  As before failure to pay by mid February will result in your swimmer being lapsed from the ASA register and therefore unable to compete.  To subsequently reinstate will incur a re-registration fee of £25.00 in addition to the normal fees so please be aware of these changes and make sure fees are paid on time.

Details of fees for 2018 will follow in the usual way by means of an attachment to an email which will be distributed mid December.
