What a fantastic and exciting day of racing in Lincoln. I would like to congratulate all of you on your behaviour, cheering, team spirit, swimming and most importantly winning the National Junior League Northern Final. You were all ace. Back to hard training now ready to kick ass in the national final on November the 28th in Liverpool.
Well done to all swimmers who competed at the Junior Open Meet. From what I have heard from Lyn and Ryan, more NER times and medals were achieved by the group which is brilliant.
One week of training now before we have to focus on our next two big events, the Yorkshire's and the Arena League at the weekend in Sheffield. Keep listening and training hard and the pb's will keep coming. Warning to swimmers who are close to winter north eastern times, this will be your last chance to achieve them as the entries will take place on Monday 11th October.
Parents Message
I am sure some of you will now will be suffering from banging headaches and very sore throats. It was great to see you all having so much fun on the balcony as you cheered for your team, hope you all had fun. Thank you for all the support you gave. Lets see if when we go to the final we can go with not just the best swimmers, but the best supporters aswell. Some of the other clubs looked amazing. Lets stand out, get planning now! There is plenty of time to come up with some chants for our team. I want to see drums, dressing up, banners, flags, tambourines, horns, wigs and face paints. The more noise you make the faster the swimmers will swim.
Well Done TEAM!!

Great Start To The New Season!!
Saturday's Meet (02/10/10)
I was very very pleased by the quality of racing today. To say we have just started the season, the amount of new pb's achieved was excellent.
62 Pb's out of 82 Swims
5 Golds
4 Silvers
4 Bronzes
10 more NER qualifying times
Please remember the North Eastern's (NER) in November are short course, so any times NER times achieved today need to be converted to short course by using the converter to the right below when entering the meet. Anyone who was a second away from an NER, please check your time using the converter as there is a good chance that when converted from long course to short course you will be in the qualifying time.
General areas for improvement
- underwater kicking off turns
- rolling shoulders on backstroke
- holding the same breathing pattern all the way through races on Fc and Fly
- clean entry (no splash) on Fc and Bk
A strong start to the season everyone, I'm impressed. Keep up the hard work. I was also pleased to see the attendance was high at our first morning training back after the break. Well done C Central!

Training tomorrow night...
Guys,
Training will finish at 8.30pm tomorrow night because of the galas. We do expect you all to attend.
It will be easy, we promise.
It is better for them to swim the night before than not to.
Thanks,
Ryan.

Parents Help Wanted!!!
Are you one of those parents who hates sitting on a hot poolside balcony for hours on end waiting for your child to swim, or one of those parents who wants to be more involved in the sport? Well here is the perfect opportunity to change that.
The club is currently asking if there are any swimmers parents who would like to help team manage on poolside at Gala's. This will mainly involve working with the younger swimmers at events making sure that every swimmer speaks to their coach before and after their swims, and that swimmers are sent to their races on time with their heat and lane number. Some events will include petrol and lunch costs paid for by the club.
If you are interested in assisting the coaches and swimmers in future events or would like to find out more information, please send me an email containing your name and number which I can pass on on to the committee.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated..
Thanks
Kevin

Behaviour in the Changing Rooms...
Hello all.
It has now been brought to our attention that the behaviour of the members of our squad in the changing rooms has now reached an unacceptable manner. Within the last week we have had two complaints about the children of our squad, from both pool staff and parents.
This behaviour needs to stop as of today. We have been through this before and it did calm down, but it has got worse again.
Even though it is not all of the swimmers messing around, it cannot continue. If it does, then we will ask all parents to go and wait for their child in the changing rooms afterwards and supervise them getting changed where suitable.
This is something we do not want to do, but equally we do not want a reputation building up about the squad.
Please can all parents please discuss and stress the importance of behaviour in the changing rooms with their child ASAP, as did myself and Kevin last night.
Yours,
Ryan.

Attendance, More Teams info....
Morning Training
I now have confirmation that our first morning of the new season will start on Thursday 30th of September. May I please remind you all of the expected attendance for swimmers in this group; 9yrs = 5 sessions, 10 yrs = 6 sessions and 11/ 12 years = 6/7 sessions a week. This follows the Long Term Athlete development plan and will give the swimmers the greatest chance of successes in the future if followed . When the register is taken the amount of sessions attended by each swimmer is recorded in a spreadsheet and this information is looked at when we review swimmers places in the group. If a swimmer can not attend a session for whatever reason, this should be made up where possible in the same week or in the following week by attending a different session.
Yorkshire's & Arena League Clash
I have had a talk with Richard (Head Age Group Coach) and we have decided that any swimmers who are swimming in both the Arena League and Yorkshire's on the same day, it is to be your decision whether or not you swim the races you have entered in the Yorkshire's, as it will be a very long day.

This is the same weekend as the Yorkshires, but is on the saturday evening. We are still to make a decision about which, if all, sessions will be swam by swimmers, or rejections will be made.
Watch this space for more info.
All swimmers must confirm your availability to swim to Alex Gray at david.gray@leeds.gov.uk and also email me(Ryan) just so we can chase people up.
This is all very confusing I know,
Please ask me if you are struggling.
Finally a Note on Punctuality
Can we remind you at everyone should be on deck 10 mins before the session starts to loosen off, ready to get in the pool. This is important for all swimmers and coaches to be equal on this. Please inform us if you may be late on a regualr basis, or you know in advance you will be late.
Cheers,
Ryan.

Champions!
Hello Everyone!
White Rose
Congratulations to both the A and B team yesterday, you where all a credit to us and the club, with some fantastic results and a great team spirit on poolside, which both me and Kevin where very proud to be a part of. And lets be fair, we really did show the other teams up, not only in the results, but the support from parents, swimmers, coaches, and even the Leeds officials!
All the info below is hearsay so it is subject to change because I can not find any info anywhere on the internet!
The next round is either the 2nd or 3rd of October.
The A team will be the team that are going, because it is only the winner of the A league that goes through. The Leeds B team won the B League will next year compete in the A League, they get 'promoted' for next year.
The A team will all be going away together on the coach. I expect it will be a day trip.
Any more info? Gimme a shout!
Yours,
Ryan.

End of an Era...
I am now on Holiday from Mon 26th July Pm - Tue 3rd Aug and Sat 7th Aug - Sat 28th Aug. All the sessions have been written by myself and passed on to the coaches who will be covering in my absence which is listed below. I have had a great time taking the group up to the end of the season and I wish you all the very best in the Welsh Nationals if you are competing. I look forward to seeing how well you have all done on my return.
Promotion letters are going to be sent out Monday 26th July so you should know this week where you are moving to. All the best in your new groups. Don't forget to take the skills you have learnt in C Central with you and work as hard as you have done for me and Ryan. All swimmers will start in their new groups on the 23rd August. We will be having 8 new swimmers in C Central so please make them feel welcome as they settle in. Remember how you felt when you first moved in - they maybe a little nervous.
Enjoy your summer break and come back fit ready to work hard in the new season. Stay safe!! lets have no broken legs, arms etc.
If you do need to contact me I will reply to any emails on my return. Ryan has the sessions from me and will look after things for the last week of training and in Wales, so I'm sure if there is anything urgent he will help you out.
Kevin
So Kevin can enjoy his holiday please feel free to ask me all the questions etc. I will reply to all emails so please send them all my way.
Remember we break up on Sunday!
If you are away at all next week please let me know for the register.

New Quote! + Coaches Cover Etc...
"In training everyone focuses on 90% physical and 10% mental, but in the races its 90% mental because there's very little that separates us physically at the elite level".
Elka Graham
Above is this 'weeks' quote. I would like you to think about that. It is very very important to get the mental side of the swim right to succeed at a young age ready for the long term. It is something that we will be working on next season.
Because Kevin is on Holiday as of Monday PM and will not be back until the second week after the break, and I go away august bank holiday for a few days, the sessions are as follows...
Mon 26th July - Kevin/James (AM)
Mon 26th July - Ryan/James (PM)
Wed 28th July - Ryan/Nathan
Thur 29th July - Ryan /Nathan (AM)
Thur 29th July - Ryan /Nathan (PM)
Fri 30th July - Ryan/Lyn
Sun 1st Aug - Ryan/Lyn (Last Session, watch this space for fun session arrangements)
No AM training for the first couple of weeks back at the start of the season.
Mon 23rd Aug- Ryan/James
Wed 25th Aug- Nathan/Elysha
Wed 26th Aug- Nathan/Elysha
Fri 27th Aug - Lyn/Beth
Sun 29th Aug - No swim, Bank Holiday.
Mon 30th Aug- No swim, Bank Holiday.
Wed 1st Sep - Both Kevin/Ryan back, still no morning training this week.
All sessions are what we would of swam anyway and have been written by Kevin. A register will be taken.
Yours,
Ryan.

The TT, PB's, NER Qualifiers etc.....
Hello Everyone,
PB Stuff!
Jacobs mum, has spent a lot of time updating the PB sheet for us, which has being a massive help.
Then Kevin had the pleasure of sitting down for about 6 hours and working out who was got what NER qualifiers and by what percentage, or by what percentage the swimmers are short of.
I must now say that the number of people that have actually achieved NER times is quite staggering, from what I believe we now have 15 swimmers going to the NER's, with a total of 30 times, which is fantastic, as it has being done in just over a few months.
So now all the sheets are now online and updated, the PB Sheet, % off NER 100m and % off NER 200m.
Time Trials
These swimmers have being entered for the TT in the following events, please let me know if we have made any mistakes.
James Hole - 100 Fly
Maisie Boyes - 100 BR/ 100 Fly
Eloise Boyes - 100 BR
Emily Braginton - 100 BR/ 100 FLY
Anna Bellwood - 100 Fly
Jordan Perkins - 100 Fly/ 100 Bk
Abby O Brien - 100 Free/ 100 BK/ 100 Fly
Megan Bannon - 100 Fly
Amber Mason - 100 BR/ 100 BK
Amelia Clynes - 100 Fly/ 100 BK/ 100 BR/ 100 FC (less than 2 secs on all 4)
Joseph Gray - 100 BR
Kit Lawless Coombes - 100 BR/ 100 FC
Layla Black - 100 BR/ 100 Fly
Zoe Kitching - 100 Fly/ 100 BK/ 100 BR
End of the Season....
We will soon be having information on the blog about what the arrangements are for the last couple of weeks before the end of the season, and the first week back, because Kevin is going away and I will be missing a few sessions bank Holiday weekend due to Leeds Festival, but we will list on here exactly who you will be having and when. Also I will be posting some information about Wales.

Bits and Bobs all in one Post...
Results - Leeds B Grade
7 Speeding Tickets
12 Golds
8 Silvers
6 Bronze
54 PB's out of 107 Swims (Great to say most of you had just PB'd 2 weeks before)
Well Done!!
Something to think about...
Train the way you want to race.
If you execute sloppy dives every day in training – you get sloppy dives at meets.
If you do slow turns every day in workouts – you get killed in the turns when you race.
If you stop a few yards short every repeat at training – you will lose most tight finishes in competition.
Updated files
We have added a swimming terms glossary to help all those swimmers and parents that don't know the difference between shortcourse and Longcourse, a PB and a DQ.... Well, not literally but you get the idea.
Also the results from the B Grade are now online.
Be Patient....
Thanks to Jacobs mum, she has now taken a weight load of work off Kevin as she is now doing most of the data processing for the PB sheet, so you may get this pretty accurately and quickly from now on.
Yours,
Ryan and Kevin.

Winter Yorkshire's Time Trials
There will be an official time trial(TT) on Mon 26th July between 6.30-7.30pm,(This may disturb our session but it depends which lanes the TT are held in, all swimmers will have a session if they are not involved in the TT, but in another pool).
This is for anyone who needs a 100m time for the Winter Yorkshires in October.
Swimmers are only allowed to do 2 swims at the TT, and should only do so if they are within 4 seconds of the qualifying time for that particular event. The times can be found on the right of the blog under Winter Yorkshires 2010. Please also take into consideration that swimmers can use a 100m Split time from a 200m race to enter the Yorkshires if it was achieved in a pool with electronic timing and meets the qualifying times.
Please email or text Kevin by Wed 14th July at the latest with the events you want to enter.
Thanks,
Kev and Ryan.

1500m Time Trial- The much awaited results are in!
Sunday 4th July C Central attempted a 1500m time trial. The times are now available. I am not bothered too much about the times it was more of a mental test to achieve 1500m without stopping. Some of the times maybe wrong due to the people counting not counting correctly, but we have a plan in place for next time we do this to make sure everyone swims the correct distance. In C Central swimmers normally cover between 3000 - 5000 metres per session, but to swim 1500 metres without breaks is a test of fitness, mental concentration, gets swimmers to focus on keeping going when their bodies are finding the event tough and helps swimmers overcome the fear of swimming longer distances in races. It also gives me an idea who is ready to move up in the near future. So well done to everyone who finished the 1500m.

Attendance
Hello.
Part of my job is to review and monitor attendance of the swimmers in our squad.
It has become apparent to me that we have a few swimmers who are not meeting the minimum requirement of sessions for their age.
The minimum sessions are as follows:
Even though this does not apply to the majority of swimmers, you all need to be aware with our squad is that we are more than full, and when it comes to the moves at the end of the season, attendance plays a massive factor in which squad you/ your child will be in next season. Unless you are meeting the minimum number of sessions a week then your place in the squad is in jeopardy.
Also, if you know you are going to miss a session for any reason, then please tell us! Because then we can mark on the register the reason for the absence, this then makes an individuals attendance much more clear. Even if you are feeling ill, a text explaining this will help us to understand more.
You can do this by e-mail or text, both mine and Kevin’s details are at the top of this page.
Sorry for the harsh approach to this issue, but I’m sure you can understand the reasons.

Harrogate Report by Kevin
A great two days at Harrogate team!!!!!
YOU WERE ALL AWESOME! - We certainly kicked Ass!
I thoroughly enjoyed spending two long days watching you at the gala as there was some really fantastic swims achieving PB's by 30 seconds or more by some swimmers. Me and Ryan are very proud of you all, it shows all the hard work and practicing skills perfectly in training is paying off .
I was pleased to see a lot more of the skills we are practicing in training transfered in to your races and this is having excellent results when swimming fast. I would like to say I was very impressed with the way you all behaved over the weekend and how you worked as a team when organising yourselves into groups to take part in the poolside warm up. The Leeds team spirit was great and it was really good to see you all shouting each other on and looking after one another when a swimmers race may not have gone to plan!
Swimmers all this good racing has created a lot of time converting and updating for me, I will try my best to get it done soon along side my job, so we can have all the C Central's improved times back on the blog.
C Central
118 PB's from 139 Swims
Mostly the swims which weren't pb's the swimmers were just outside by point zero of a second.
2 more Ner times
Saturday
20 Speeding Tickets
5 Golds
6 Silvers
8 Bronze
Sunday
Not sure on these medals from Sunday as I only have a copy of the website results and this does not show speeding tickets.
We are nearly at the end of the season so keep up the hard work and effort for a few more weeks and then you can have a well deserved 2 week break.

Harrogate!
Harrogate
I have checked the website and the warm up for the Harrogate meet is now at 9am and session will start at 10am - not as originally advertised. This means swimmers should be arriving on poolside just after 8.30am. I was told it is now City of Leeds Club Policy that all swimmers must arrive 30min prior to the pool warm up for dynamic poolside stretching and failing to do so will result in the team manager pulling swimmers out of their race for the full session. This happened to 2 swimmers at the NEC's last week.
Lets see the hard work in training pay off this weekend. Medals, PB's here we come!!!! C Central Kick some Ass!!
Any information you may need can be found on the following link:

Some Wise Words from Our Lead Coach....
Back to basics...
You may have all noticed last weeks training volume decreased and was a lot easier. This was so you could spend a whole week reminding yourselves of the basic technique we need on all 4 strokes to be a better swimmers. Some of you may ask why me and Ryan have done this? And how are you going to be faster swimmers if you don't swim fast all the time in training?
There is nothing wrong with us spending a whole week on short distances working on getting everything right with our strokes, as when we transfer our perfect technique's into our swimming it should prove to be very beneficial in the long term making you faster swimmers in the years to come. This is the time to get stroke techniques right, when you are young. Changing stroke techniques to be good after years of swimming bad technique can be almost impossible this is because you will have trained your body to perform bad movements over many years.
Me and Ryan are very impressed with the way last weeks training went as everyone looked technically good in the water and everyone improved on something. Alex was impressed and commented on how he may need to borrow swimmers from our group to show his group how to swim. As we start to increase the intensity and volume of training again it is important that all the little practices you did last week (most of you could list at least 10 points to think about on each stroke) get put into your full strokes when swimming faster. e.g. caterpillar on fly, triangle on breaststroke ect........

Well done to Abigail Jack who managed 100% attendance for May, this is an amazing achievement and shows great commitment. Well done Abigail.
A few things......
People have told me great things about the swimming from our group at the Hull gala with some swimmers achieving PB's by over 15 seconds, this is ACE!!!!. I am looking forward to watching you all at Harrogate in a few weeks. I will be updating the times this week, but please be patient as I am at John Charles teaching for most of the week.
One thing I have noticed is the distance you are all hitting before you come up off the wall out of the turns is increasing, this shows all the underwater work we have done is starting to pay off.
I thought I would also pass the message on to you from Head Coach Dave Calleja. He has said how impressed he is with the amount of swimmers that are turning up to morning training and the high level of team spirit in the group at the moment. Keep it up guys!!
C Central target for this month:
TRANSFER SKILLS AND TECHNIQUE INTO LONGER DISTANCES AND MAINTAIN WHEN SWIMMING FASTER!
Something for you to think about.
'As the years go by I train physically harder and I am always trying to go faster, further and higher. I train seven days a week and at the end of the day, I'm pretty tired but I never wish I was anyone else. If I miss a days training I feel guilty and know I should have done it. I'm conscientious and unless I have a very good reason to, I never miss a session. It seems unfair to train for years and miss days just for the hell of it, and if I ever started to skip days, I would realise my attitude was not right and it was time for me to finish. - Olympic Champion

P.S, can all the parents read the previous post about phone numbers and respond accordingly.

This Weekend and other bits!
First things first...
Training is on as normal all weekend, except if you are swimming in a competition this weekend you may be getting out earlier tonight to try help you get a decent nights sleep.
Kevin is going to be at the NEC's, and Lyn will be looking after you if you go to the York meet.
"I read back through the post and found these words of wisdom from Kevin.....
Think how many lengths you swim in training without having rest! A race is a tiny fraction of what we practice in training. Don't be scared of going out fast on your races at the weekend. Don't save yourself for the last part of the race as you may have more energy left than you think. You should feel like you have nothing left to give when you climb out of the pool after your swims. When you feel like you are tiering in your race, think about holding good technique, it is this good practice that will get you to the end.
Go out fast!
Hold the second 50m
Work the third 50m
Use what ever energy you have left on the last 50m (No breathing last 5m)
Don't slow down into the walls on turns and remember as soon as your feet leave, BANG BANG BANG with fly legs!!!!!"
Some words from my experience....Take this into consideration and remember that you MUST not get yourself worked up about a swim. Just because you don't PB doesn't mean you have swam bad. No swim is a bad swim. Every swim you can learn something from to help you develop as a swimmer. Relax, go out and ENJOY the swim. Do not get worked up about it, as it can have a negative effect.

Training, Breakfast Club and Toby with his extremely Huge Lungs!
Message from Kevin....
Training
After finishing last week's training on a low, due to poor skills and starting the warm up 27 times I am pleased to say I think we are back on a high. The swimming and skills in last night and this mornings sessions was excellent and back how it should be, resulting in other coaches commenting on how good the technique of our squad looked. Lets keep it up!
Breakfast club
Thank you to all swimmers who came to breakfast after the session this morning. It turned out to be a great success and I think we should make it a regular club during school holidays as it is great for team building and getting to know everyone.
Big Achievement
The set this morning required swimmers to dive in and kick butterfly in the streamlined position (without fins) as far as they could under the water without breathing. Me and Ryan decided if anyone makes the full 50m the whole group could get out (not thinking that anyone would). However Toby managed to set a C Central record by achieving the full 50 metres, resulting in us finishing 10 minutes early and him getting a free breakfast. A fantastic achievement as some swimmers in the top group would struggle to do the full 50 metres. Well Done!!!

As discussed at previous morning training sessions we thought it would be nice, seen as it is school holidays, if after the session swimmers would like join and have a team breakfast in the John Charles cafe when we have finished the session.
Bring a couple of quid and See you there!
