Keep training hard.  On the whole the technique in both squads is looking very good at the moment.  Make sure you try your best to transfer the skills you have learnt in the training pool into the racing pool.  Best of luck to those swimmers who are competing for East Leeds at Harrogate over the weekend, we look forward to hearing about your results.

'Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose.  Nobody goes undefeated all the time.  If you can pick up after crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.'  (Wilma Rudolph.  American Athlete, three-time Olympic gold medalist (Rome 1960)).

National Qualifying Meet

Hi All,

Those swimmers competing in the National Qualifying Meet at the weekend will just be training for 1 hour on Friday night.  Swimmers are to report to Kevin on Saturday and Tom on Sunday.  This is one of the last opportunities to grab those North Eastern times, hopefully you will all add a few more to your list.

Sat & Sun
Am Sessions
Arrive: 7:30am
Warm Up: 8:00am
Start: 9:00am

The draft programme can be viewed by clicking the following link:

Good Luck to everyone who is racing this weekend.  Remember get in the race from the start and don't play catch up later on.  Make sure those turns are less than a second and accelerate into the finish.

Make sure you pick up the effort on every 50m.  If the length you are swimming feels the same as the one you have swum before you will be slowing down, if you feel like you are putting in more effort on every length then your splits will be the same or faster which is what you want.

All swimmers who are racing over the weekend can have Sunday nights session off with a mark.

'In 2004, I won a bronze.  This is a silver.  Maybe in 2012, it will be a gold.  Slowly, slowly.'  (Eliud Kipchoge - Kenyan Athlete, Olympic Silver medalist, Beijing 2008)

100m Time Trial

Hi All,

The 100m time trial will take place at the Development meet on Saturday 27th April (Warm Up 8.00 - 8.30 am).

Some swimmers were rejected for the time trial as they will have the opportunity to swim the 100's at the Leeds Summer B Grade or the Harrogate Open Meet in June.

Swimmers who are within 3 seconds to Welsh National times or NER times will be given an entry form at traing.  Entry forms must be completed and returned to the entry desk at the end of the balcony on Monday 8th April.  The cost of each time trial is £2.

Please use the following formula to work out entry times for the younger swimmers who have never competed in a 100 m race before.

Formula for Estimated Times

PB = Personal Best

* Please note these are only estimated times

100m Estimated Times: 50m Pb x 2 = ? + 8

38.3 x 2 = 1.16.60 + 8 = 1.24.6

100m Time Trials Reminder!!!

Hi All,

The 100m Time Trials will take place during the Development Meet on 27th April.  Any swimmers who need 100m times to enter upcoming meets please send me an email by Thursday at the latest.   I cannot guarantee everyone will get to swim due to the small amount of spaces we have.  I will put a list on the blog over the next week of all the swimmers who get accepted to race.  Priority will go to swimmers who are close to Welsh National times who cannot swim at the Sports Aid and who have never swum a 100m in a competition before

Thanks

Yorkshire Sprints & Teams

This weekend is the third round of the Yorkshires and it's time to get ready to Sprint!!!!!  Remember, in sprints it is vital to get all the elements of the race right.  If you get your start, transition and finish spot on this can be the milliseconds needed to move up a few places in the results.  Also in the 50m sprints it is your chance to shine and earn your place in selection for relays.

As nearly everyone is racing over the weekend in Sheffield, training on Friday night will just be an hour.

There will be NO TRAINING on Sunday night.

The draft programme for the weekend can be viewed by using the link below:
http://www.yorkshireswimming.org/championships_files/2013%20Champs/MASTER%20PROGRAM%20GALA%203.pdf

If there is anyone down in the programme who cannot compete this weekend, can you please let me know by text or email so I can pass on the information to the team managers.  Please remember it is City of Leeds policy to arrive 30 minutes before the warm up and check in with the team manager.  Team managers have the right to pull swimmers out if they arrive late as the Club can be fined if a swimmer does not show for their race.

Saturday Am
Arrive: 07:30
Warm Up: 08:00
Start: 09:00

Saturday Pm
Arrive: 12:30
Warm Up: 13:00
Start: 02:00

Sunday Am Teams
Arrive: 08:30
Warm Up: 09:00
Start:  10:00

Sunday Pm Teams
Arrive: 12:30
Warm Up: 13:00
Start: 14:00

I am looking forward to seeing some fast swimming this weekend as some of you have achieved a PB in training within the last 2 weeks.  Get down that first 25m hard and keep picking up the effort every 10 metres.  Don't slow down into the finish, smash through the wall.  When swimming in the relays be careful on the takeovers, block out the background noise and concentrate on your team mate swimming in.  It is better to go late than early and get your team disqualified.

'Before the (Olympic) trials I was doing a lot of relaxing exercises and visualisation.  And I think that that helped me to get a feel of what it was gonna be like when I got there.  I knew that I had done everything that I could to get ready for that meet, both physically and mentally.'  Michael Phelps, 6 Gold medals, 2004 Olympic games

Good Luck Everyone! http://tracking.technodesignip.com/?action=count&projectid=642&contentid=6535&referrer=-&urlaction=r...
